Face book snooping question

Computer amateur question.

Yesterday I recieved an email from "Julie Stronghold" inviting me to join facebook. This email came to my company email address which I assume has some sort of spam filter.

Attached were 9 names and photos of people that I know, whom do not know each other. These are people that are completely unrelated. i.e. cousin of ex wife, high school friend, 3 people that I work with but do not work for the same company, a para legal that filled out my divorce papers, and a lawyer that reviewed my papers from a different state.

I think the only thing in common these people have is that they have facebook profiles. I do not have a profile nor will I ever.

So the question is, how did this spam email compile people that I know but that I do not email/communicate/or talk to, from different parts of California and other states? :wow

This kinda freaked me out yesterday and now I am really wondering.

what likely happened is that this person allowed FB to access her email account and pull addresses in a bid for her to make friends- frequently is pushed by FB for new accounts and at random times. they then match interests, location, and some unholy mishmash of personal info they pull from your profile and the profile of people who also had email addresses on her list to create a possible network of people you/she may know.

my aol addy book keeps a cache of every email address I send to, so perhaps she has a similar addy book and contacted you once for sales, or tech support or something.

if you don't know her, toss it. I never click through on any links sent to me that way.

I clicked the link to take me off the facebook email list. Then I added the sender to the "blocked sender" list in my outlook. :|
