Is it summer yet?
Well, qualifying is on right now.

Vettel doesn't make it to Q3. Wow.

Looks to be a wide open race tomorrow.

F1 China?

Are the cars mass produced low quality knockoffs that have to be replaced every 25 laps?

I'm excited. Thanks to whoever started that thread about F1 being more competitive, I've started watching it, and am loving it.

Rosberg
Schumacher
Kobayashi
Raikonen

The first four qualifiers. In dry race conditions. Care to pick a winner? :D

That qualifying session was NUTS!!! I was watching the pre show, and they were talking and showing the Mercedes DRS system and how it uses air passing through the rear wings opening to exit under the front wing thus eliminating it's downforce for more speed.

The stuff they do to those cars while driving is insane to. From the brake bias to the DRS to the this and that it's just nuts. I need to go back and re watch that QP there was a lot going on and I cannot believe Vettel didn't make Q3 and that Webber his RedBull teammate is that far down the order as well.

Tomorrow night is going to be a race I am thinking. Congrats to Rosberg!

I was asleep and woke up to the announcers screaming that, :laughing I'll watch it with more interest now.

First time Mercedes has been on the pole since '56, something like that... can't wait.

I am betting on Schumacher FTW...

Rolls with it...
I liked how Rosberg was confident enough in his time to park the car with a minute and half left... good for him, glad to see him doing well!

OTOH, I'm not used to seeing Vettel look "worried"... the RB cars just don't seem to have "it" right now.

You do realize that this team won the world title a few yrs ago and Jenson Button put it on the pole several times.

:nerd
It is Mercedes' first pole since the 1955 Italian Grand Prix with Juan Manuel Fangio. The team pulled out of F1 at the end of that season following a second consecutive world title for the legendary Argentine, not returning as a constructor until 2010 when they bought the Brawn team.

But that wasn't a Mercedes "factory" team which I believe was the comment made by Varsha, that was pretty much Honda developed chassis with a MB engine...

Mercedes pulled out because in 1955 Pierre Levegh tried driving the full 24hr on Le Mans by himself and fell asleep, crashed into the crowd and killed over 80 people.
No longer are the days of full factory in house F1 teams, except Ferrari. Manufacturers buy existing teams and build the engine. This team has been around for decades under different names.

The LeMans disaster was in June and forced the cancellation of a couple F1 races while safety was reviewed, the Mercedes team still finished the season, and Fangio was Champion.

By all accounts, the current MB F1 effort is a factory team (BAR>Honda>Brawn>MB, right?), and has even raised the ire of MB shareholders questioning if the expense is worth it.

Yeah all of those plus Tyrell which is what that team was and longest running name.
It's such an expensive sport it's hard to see the return on investment. I can't blame the investors for complaining. I wouldn't put my money in it.
Problem is it's too much a business and less so a sport.

it's also nice to see Michael being human during an interview, typically he's such a robot.

Yeah, he's mellowed in his old age.

But I don't think anyone will be such a boring twat as Mansell off the track. That monotone could put anyone to sleep. I could never equate his epic battle with Senna at Monte Carlo, with his depressing 'Marvin the Android' retelling of it. Sounded like he was reading a eulogy.
