Ever heard of Double Tubing?

I stumbled on this video of a guy doing a "Double Tubing".

I had never heard of this before and was wondering if anybody here has?
Seems like it could add a little flat protection, similar to Mr Tuffy tire liners I use to help minimize thorn type flats on my Mtn Bike.
Also, of course, it will add to the rotational weight of the wheel which is probably not the best idea.

Anybody here heard of or practice Double Tubing?

Here's the video...

Yea i do it all the time when my mousse shrinks a little, never tried it with a tube though. (Generous lubing and the rubber doesn’t melt)

Not a new concept. That's just a ghetto version of a Tube Saddle.

It's meant to prevent pinch flats, because hopefully the outer tube gets pinched sparing the inner tube. It doesn't do anything for punctures; if the puncturing object is stout enough to go through the tire and the 1st tube, it will go through the 2nd tube no problem. The Mr Tuffy tire liners are meant to be thick and strong to stop thorns. A 2nd tube isn't stopping anything.

Yeah but that's not the same thing at all. You are doing it to take up volume in the tire, this is for flat prevention.

The tube saddle wraps around the tube the opposite direction of the way this guy did it. I've had good results with the tube saddle in baja. Never had a flat with one yet. They are a pain to install though.

The guy at tube saddle has a pretty good data base of users info on different tires and pressures for different terrain. Seems way better than the double wrap but certainly costs more. :thumbup

I've got nothing to add other than I was intrigued by "Double Tubing" in the thread title. Didnt know where that might lead. :laughing:teeth

I'm a single tube kinda guy, on and off the bike. :gsxrgrl

Some folks really go to extremes to avoid changing the occasional tube.

Not a terrible idea. Just not sure it's worth the effort.

It took several years but I seem to have lived past the triple tube incident finally. Or else you're slipping CJ. :laughing

Su nombre as Tres Tubos, ahora y siempre! Alguna pregunta más?

I'm surprised one of these tube swapping phobes hasnt figured out a way to carry a spare deflated tube in their tires yet. Drill an extra hole for the second valve stem on the other side of the rim, insert both tubes but only inflate one. When it goes flat with a leak, simply inflate the other one.

Daniel, drill three holes. You will need three.

I think I'm on to something here. May have to call my company Dos Tubos, or Tres Tubos. I'll charge $300 per tire for the system and tell folks they arent allowed to use it on the pavement for more than 15 minutes at a time or exceed 55mph. I can sell some super secret fluid to help with the installation (simply rebranded KY Jelly) and charge another $55.

I'm going to need a Social Influencer to help market this. Who looks good in a bikini?

Dmitriy, wanna make $20 dollars?

Sorry John, didnt mean to derail your thread. I can't help myself...... but this might be my million dollar fortune!

I think this might actually work. Have the other tube already in the tire and inflate when needed? Or inflate both to 1/2 normal psi?

As for the video in the OP, I don't think a tube condom will do a whole lot, why not just buy a thicker tube.

I'm not a scientist, nor have I ever played one on TV........ but

I'd agree. Thick tube mo betta.

It would probably do more good if positioned on the other side of the tube like the saddle product to prevent pinch flats. But even then, skeptical of its real value.

As for the Dos Tubos product, my crack engineering team is still working on this. If they ever sober up and come off their 24/7 crack high, we might be able to publish some results.

I suspect there would be heat issues caused by the extra tube rubbing around in there.

In the interim, please refer all questions to my Russian super model social media spokesman.

Carry on. :teeth :party :twofinger

Yep, I've been doing it for years.
Started when I bought one of those heavy duty tubes, didn't last five minutes in the dirt. Tried double tubing and liked the results. Been doing it ever since.
