eBay Scam ?!?!

Hey all,

I've been cruising through eBay, and saw a bike that was cheap. a little too good to be true, so I have my doubts..here's the link:

eBay GSXR

I emailed the guy to put me on his pre-approved list. and this is the reply:

Hello,

My name is xxx (blanked out for safetly i suppose - email me and i'll forward you the original message). I`m an US citizen but curently i am deployed in Iraq with the army. This has no negative effect on you because shipment is included in the buy it now price and will cost you nothing more.
The bike is for the moment in a eBay warehouse, they verified it and crated it, all i need to do now is contact them and inform them the destination of the package.
I must tell you that i`m selling this beautiful bike not because i want to but because i have to.Since i joined the army i haven't found the time to ride the bike anymore.

I listed it on eBay because I want to sell it for a little higher price and also make the deal fast as i need money. What better place than ebay US???

So i have for sale a remarkable bike for those who like to ride and ride. It’s as new and very well maintained. It has a clear title. Also it is still under warranty, and you can extend this by paying a fee at your local dealer.

2005 SUZUKI GSX-R 600.........$2,500 US

Shipping will be done with FedEx Insured and will take 3 days to reach your address. I will pay all shipping and delivery costs (they are included in the buy it now price).

I prefer that our deal to be supervised by eBay and that is why eBay will assign an agent that will receive the payment until they have confirmation that you will accept the bike.

Please send me your eBay id , full name and address so I let eBay know that you are interested and to add you on my pre-approved bidders list.

You will receive an email from them instructing you about how to send payment and they'll release the funds to me only after you receive and inspect the bike.

I think that this is a fair way to make business and I hope that you will agree. I don’t touch your money until you receive and inspect the goods.

Hoping that I have kept your attention and your interest is still on, I look forward for any questions that you might have regarding the bike.

Yours, xxx

soooo....is this some sort of scam where they can hack into my ebay account?

Duh! It is a scam.

But then again I have heard that 2005 SUZUKI GSX-R 600's are selling for 500 bucks in Iraq. Please send me your full name, social security, picture (if you are a hot chick), phone number and your home address (if you are a hot chick). I will also throw in the bay bridge in the deal so you can ride your new GSXR on your own bridge.

P.S. Post the email address.

Scam:

1. Ask eBay. If he's legit, they'll know. If not, his auction will disappear.

2. Price is unrealistic.

3. It's slightly sketchy to me that he'd have it all crated and ready to go after some time in the military -- so who did the prep work?

And posing as a soldier... :finger

I'll bet he'll send you a link to a very nice e-Bay look-a-like website. I've seen these type of websites before. The only way you can tell it's not a real e-Bay website is the starting URL with numbers (ie. http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/) instead of the usual www.ebay.com

i think the part that razzled me was that he was posing to be a US Soldier. That got me pretty steamed too.

Here's the info on the mother-effer:

I know....should I contact ebay?

well, the *ebay* warehouse...i've seen a thing similar to that. can remember the name of the place, but they specialize in ebay shipping 'n stuff...so i didn't know if there was a corollation. how do we bust this guy on ebay? and it looks like he's got 25 positive feedback to boot.

sounds like he's working through a bonded shipper...

there was another one....check this out:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=4549854988&category=50053

and this bike look oddly familiar...

I followed an eBay/craigslist scam for awhile, I should post the emails I got. The guy said the bike was in NY so I said I just happened to be flying there in two days and could preview. The next day he sends an email saying he just shipped it to Europe but that he would ship it back if I was really interested and if I would Western Union him a $1000 deposit.

Uh, sure. I'll send it right away! :laughing

Just for fun forward it to the DOD. They may have some junior Barney Fife type who has spare time to track the guy down.

My hope of all hopes it that they send some Tom Clancy type Ghost Recon nightvision goggle action hero. Imagine waking up in the middle of the night and hearing very faintly "I'm here to buy your Gixxer"
