Microsoft had their news conference and E3 kickoff this morning. here is the quick rundown for those interested.

new model xbox 360's released today and are in stores now.
200 for a 4GB model, 300 for the 250GB model and 300 for a 4GB model with kinnect. has not yet been announced if the new 360 will accept any of the older hard drives, but it looks like it has internal storage so i am guessing they wont.

current xbox live gold members will get 2 games free till the xbox 1 launches, this month is halo 3 and assasins creed 2.
games announced this morning:
battlefield 4
witcher 3
below by capy
a AAA by blacktusk studio

ms points will no longer be used on xbox1, real money instead.
twitch streaming integrated into xbox one, theres your DVR functionality. get ready to pay for a subscription to twitch.

not looking good right now. everything is intergrated through smart glass devices including matchmaking and stats and the only real DVR functionality is through twitch.

I'm glad they're getting rid of Microsoft points, they always priced stuff so you had to buy way more then you needed. They would advertise something like a DLC would cost $12, or 700 points (probably not the right number) but they would only sell them in increments that never added up without going over.

I was expecting more exclusives to justify the purchase of something that's pretty much a "multimedia entertainment system" that has a hardon for fucking up your shit rather than a gaming console.

Hardware specs?
these were released last month:

"The system includes 8GB of RAM, an 8-Core CPU, a 500GB hard drive, a Blu-ray drive, HDMI in and out ports, USB 3.0, 802.11n wireless, and more. It also includes a new version of the Kinect sensor."

i attended the AMD fan day a couple months ago, they had a presentation on the new consoles and confirmed that the ps4 is using modified A series cpu and gpu combos.
when the new xbox came up the presenter said "Well i can't say officially that they will use the same chip, but they will be using something very similar from AMD".

I watched the sony presser last night, man it seems like they knew exactly what they were doing with the whole no DRM speech. early rumors had the ps3 more restrictive then the xbox1 and then to come out like they did was funny.
the next gen games coming out though for both systems seem played out though, After the last halo i don't see a new one doing to well. infamous was a good game but again the second one didn't sell well. hopefully we get more games during the week.

I haven't bought a console since n64. Do all my gaming on the PC and don't see that changing anytime soon. Assuming a ps4 can play blu rays I might pick one up. I hate my god damn blu ray player that much.

I think I'm sold. Errr, not sold that is. The Xbox Uno can suck it. Higher priced, Xbox live costs money, has to be on, Kinect has to be connected, blah blah...Sony wins before the first one is even sold.

What sucks is if you're attached to a particular game that's exclusive to Xbox like Forza. Oh well.

I'm pretty much set on not buying either one. Haven't seen anything that makes me want to spend 400 bucks on a console yet.

But.

It is cheaper than $1-1500 for a mid range gaming PC that won't go nearly as long before being obsolete as a console.

Oh, for sure. I have no intention of PC gaming either.

I'll stick with PS3 for the forseeable future. Even my 360 has been relegated to the boys' room. They're all basically glorified netflix boxes lately anyway :laughing

till The Last Of Us comes out on Friday, that is.

If you already have the durable bits (monitor, sound system, inputs) you can build a KILLER PC for that much, and for a little bit more you can keep it killer for a long time.

Exactly what I'm gonna do later this year. Take the 7870HD and power supply out of the 4 year old off the rack Gateway computer I tried to upgrade with the new GPU...and build a new box. A new 4770k Haswell and a mobo is gonna knock me for $500. Another $500 or so on a case, memory, SSD, and a fresh copy of Winblows and I'll have a pretty state of the art rig for about a grand.

...which won't play new(er) games well after a year or three.

Also, for me one of the biggest reasons I went back to console gaming was comfort. Desk/mouse/keyboard setups just weren't doing it for me compared to sitting on the couch.
