** Donut Shop Forum Needed **

This post serves two purposes:

1) To ask Steve to seriously consider adding a Donut Shop Forum for asking cops questions about laws, tickets and letting us cops clue all of the other BARFers in on new trends, laws, policies and enforcement activities that may significantly impact you as a motorist or more specifically as a motocyclist.

2) (FOR EXAMPLE) To let everyone know there is a huge "click-it or ticket" campaign going on nationwide. Maybe you have heard commercials on the radio or seen them on TV, but his is a really big campaign that had a kick of on May 3rd and will continue through May 31st, 2005. Each county and city was offered funding ($$$) for overtime to increase enforcement of seatbelt and child car-seat laws. So, be sure to click-it when you are in you cage and let your freinds and family know there is an all-out effort to get $85 (first offense fine) out of each and every un-belted citizen in the country, this month (budget balancing maybe?). Details at www.buckleupamerica.org

Soooo... Other than the extra cops (both motorcops and cruiser cops) on the street writing lots and lots of tickets, it should be good times for motorcyclists until June 1st.. as long as you have a helmet on and keep your front wheel on the pavement, you will likely go pretty much unnoticed or find officers preoccupied with the un-belted cagers. YMMV.

Suspect: Listen cop, I pay your salery.
Sgt. Joe Friday: Yeah, and I'm about to earn it.

I wonder if we would get any insider info on where the popo is going to be patroling?

Good idea I wonder why it's not implemented earlier.
It took me a couple days to read the 40+ pages LEO thread. There're some great infos in there but I can't remember the exact page #. It'd be nice to be able to scan each topic like other forums.

Gotta love grant money. I'm on board for 44 hours of overtime to ticket those who did not click it. :)

Hell yes, give us a LEO section. We'll take on all questions and provide some humor.

it's a good idea as long as all participants (members here) are on equal grounds. the minute leo's start pulling power moves it's gonna be a bad idea.

Power moves?? Get a grip. We are members here, just like you.
Power moves? ROFLOL. A little paranoid 777?

Besides, we get that out of our system on the streets messing with stunters <grin>.

The other day, I took a police motorcycle in for repair and the tech took it for a road test and I could hear the siren 3 blocks away! When he got back, he was totally manic. He admitted he could not resist the "power" ..he was like, "Damn man, how do you control it?" I told him "..they beat it out of us at the academy, but seriously, any rush wears off after you realize it is a job. I try to treat people the way I would want to be treated." He said, "Now I know why the rookies are such d!cks.. man, I would be ruthless!" I answered, "That's why you are a mechanic and not a cop."

While we're all here, can we get a petition going granting us permission to reach inside cagers' rides, take their cell-phones and shove them up their backsides if they're caught chatting and driving?

Thanks for listening.

If there are a sufficient number of LEOs on the board to make a "donut shop" category feasible, I don't see why this should be at all controversial. Perhaps if we all attend the upcoming BARF fundraiser (TBA soon by Hawkgirl and/or cat_in_sf) Steve will respond accordingly (hint, hint). Last I heard, Steve was interested in forging greater ties between BARF and law enforcement.

Some would say that you gotta be an utter moron to ride motorcycles. ;)

Back on subject... I think such a forum subject would be a great idea! Seems like it'd be easier to look up things if it was un a subject rather than a thread.

Brash strikes me as the kind of guy who would have no problem moderating.

so like, who would police that forum?

The Police....silly....

Do we remember: Who Watches the Watchmen?

Maybe we could have a spot, where LEO's could identify the agency's they are with.... For specific questions, and policy for specific departments....

Doesnt do a lot of good for a city cop to field a CHP question, and vice versa...
