Does anybody know the registration fees for an out of state vehicle

Whats in a title?
I'm planning on keeping my Dodge pick up, it's got WA tags and it's up to date. Wondering what the fees might be. Is there any emission standards. Has anybody had experience with this?

So - there are a couple of questions you're going to need to answer.
When did you move to California from Washington?
Were you in CA as an active duty member of the military?
Do you already have a CA drivers license?

Getting your vehicle registered in CA isn't going to be a big problem unless you bought the truck out of state while you were a resident of CA. IF that is the case then a small can of worms has been dumped on your dashboard. The truck will need to have either a 50 state emissions sticker or a CA emissions sticker OR more than 7500 miles on the odo at the time it was brought into CA. Also, if you were a resident of CA when you bought the truck in WA, you're going to get to pay CA Sales Tax along with the registration and plate fees.

Your best resource is a visit to the nearest CA DMV office. There is also a reasonable amount of information available through the CA DMV website.

Good luck!

When I moved here from Portland, OR...I was lazy and didn't reg until past the advised 10 days (?) that you are supposed to. The vehicle was bought over 1 year ago (as a non-CA resident) so I didn't have to pay sales tax. However, a vehicle will need to get a smog test before the DMV will register it. So go get the vehicle smog tested first. Once at the DMV it could be anywhere from $150 to $600 depending on all sorts of random stuff. I'd get smogged and then go to DMV and see. (my 2 cents)

The other thing to note is that a pickup, anything with an open bed, will have to be weighed by a certified CA weighmaster. I recently moved here from NY and had to have my pickup weighed despite that the NY title had the weight on it.

This was the most annoying part when I registered an out of state truck. On the plus side, you get a commercial license plate and can park in commercial spots :cool
