Twitter is excellent for monitoring news from official outlets, especially when there is a widely used hashtag.

This weekend during the flooding in Reno/Washoe/Carson and subsequent sierra blizzard and Washoe/Carson Valleys I was following the NVflood17 hashtag. CHP, NHP, Caltrans, Ndot, all the counties, usgs, nws, all the cities, public utilities all have twitter feeds and they seem to be update first and frequently with pertinent information such as road closures, evacuations, etc.

edit, to answer the question, I use twitter, but I never post tweets.

double edit, twitter is also excellent for moto news, if you follow all the riders, series, journalists, etc you get the scoop fast. Just don't look on raceday if you want to avoid spoilers.
