I spent six months living in Mumbai, India. As a 400lb, 6', bearded white guy, I was somewhat an oddity there. I'd usually be thronged with begging children anywhere I went, would get offered prices 10x what the things cost, etc. It was interesting to experience a different type of prejudice- the assumption that a fat white guy is wealthy, for instance- and be treated accordingly.
I've been pulled over for "Driving while White" in India... and I wasn't even driving (company issued driver/car.) Police officer on a streetcorner sees me in the front seat of the car and does a double take- blows his whistle, pulls the car over. The driver tells me "He wants a 400 Rupee fine for a dirty front license plate." I get out, look at the plate, it's clean- the driver washes the car daily. Driver tells me "If you don't pay, he will take you to jail." I pull out my wallet, show that it's empty. "ATM" police guy says, and points, and grabs my arm, and starts frog-marching me the 400yds towards the ATM machine. My driver follows in the car. I withdraw 400 rupees ($5.50 USD) and give it to him, he smiles, says "Have nice day" and walks back towards his streetcorner.
That happened no less than a dozen times over six months. After the second time I learned to keep a few hundred rupees on me in cash to just give over and end the harassment.
Do I think it's much different for black men in America? Not really, except they don't have the privilege of being able to bribe their way out of the trouble it's imagined they're in. That leads me to a lot of empathy regarding their encounters with police.
