Any insight on the DMV and swapping out a frame that I bought from an individual to replace the one I bent. The DMV website has some insight but I need the internet truth. actually the DMV makes it sound more difficult than the actual swap :( wank on

bump - Im looking at swapping out a frame on a street legal bike I own - is it as simple as taking the new and old frame and having it CHP inspected with proper paperwork, then taking that to DMV and having them process a new title with the change?

I did this several years ago. Had two bikes, one with blown engine and I wanted the good engine in the good frame.

Go to DMV with paperwork for both bikes. Tell them you want to transfer engine from one frame to the next. They'll get you the proper forms and you'll end up with updated registration and title for the frame with new engine#. No CHP inspection needed, the DMV guy just walked out there and verified VIN and engine# on the new bike.

Then some more paperwork to scrap the remaining frame.

Little different in this case as the frame is an aftermarket chromoly frame for a 1970s Honda mini that's currently street legal. I assume it will need a CHP inspection and blue tag...?

Seeing as the frame is the registered part of the bike, I suspect you'll have to register it as a custom bike.

Groveland, where's that?
It would be classified as a special construction. Do the swap, keep ALL documentation, and make appointment with CHP for verification.
