DL650 Clutch freeplay adjustment

My clutch is barely working, and I know the problem is the lower clutch freeplay adjustment, underneath the clutch cover on the left side of the engine.

This has been a problem before, and my mechanic tightened it for me, but I honestly don't think I will be able to make it up to Petaluma where he is, so I need to tighten in myself.

I've read that there is a locknut I have to loosen at the end of the cable, which will allow me to back out a screw a few turns, and then tighten it back up until I feel a little bit of resistance, and then back it out one turn.

Does that sound about right? The main question I have is that when I take off the clutch cover, do I need to lean the bike in the opposite direction so oil won't spill out, or will all of the oil be in the oil pan, allowing me to freely remove it without losing all of my oil?

Thanks a bunch for any info! I need to get back on the road. I wish I had my tools here in the city! Hopefully I have what I need in my apartment to get this job done.

Wow, thanks. Yeah I found it difficult to find specific info on this adjustment on the web.
