dissemble a fork cap

I'm trying to dissemble the stock for cap on a 07 GSXR 600 so I can install a fork cap extender. I've removed it from the bike and separated the rebound rod but I can't figure out how to remove the preload adjuster. Any help is appreciated.

Small metal circlip on the bottom side. Take it off and the cap will separate from the valve/adjuster. Silver clip, can't miss it. But for some reason I did one time it and cost a new fork cap. Don't pry or go crazy. Its alum

They allow you to lengthen the overall fork. Then you can raise the front end (along with the rear) for improved overall handling. It's a common trick among racers and serious track day riders. :ride

Absolutely totally this. Be very careful with those GSXR fork caps. If you force one you may need to find a new one.

I got the circlip off but still no luck. I'm reluctant to crank on it but seems like that;s the only way to get it off.

What the heck is a fork cap extender?
I may need some one day.

some bikes need a lot of extra fork length for good track geometry. most aftermarket fork cartridges lengthen the forks ~10mm. u gotta install extenders when u need more than that. ive only seen these on certain GSXRs
