Dirty sliding TT goodness at Thunderhill

Thunderhill Raceway added a 60' wide half-mile TT track this spring. If you've never ridden TT, its like a road race on dirt with a 10x grin factor. Back it into ever corner and steer with the throttle on the way out. Add a jump or two for more fun. Haven't heard about open practice days yet but SupermotoUSA is racing on this track - all dirt, no pavement - on April 29th. SupermotoUSA classes and Class C traction (no knobbies).* Grab some racing rain tires (take-offs can be found pretty cheap) or borrow a tire groover cut up some slicks or street tires. If you have a dirt bike with traditional dirt wheel sizes, just use dual sport tires. Once you try TT, there is no going back. :ride

* There may be one race for open traction at the end of the day.

I don't know about open practices. Will ask. I don't believe an AMA membership is required for practice or racing at this track. In fact, I think only one SupermotoUSA race this year (Sturgis Buffalo Chip) is an AMA event. Have to confirm that.

No Open Practice days at the T-hill TT track are planned.

There will be a practice day on Saturday 4/28. SupermotoUSA races are on Sunday 4/29 so you could make a weekend of it.

Saturday practice

The day before the racing we will have Open Practice on the new TT track. No license or card is required, all riders (racing or not) can participate.

There will be future practice, rider training and events to come. Show your interest and support by attending the first event!

You'll have a blast. What tires are you going to run?

I'm thinking of just running my stock rims 21/18..and getting whatever I can find to mount on them...I'm pretty good in the dirt and my new KTM has traction control:teeth. Any tire suggestions?

Shinko makes a dual sport tire that looks very much like a trials tire. They are cheap, come in some of the same sizes as knobbies and work really good in either cushion or blue groove conditions. I don't remember the model number for that tire. You may be able to run a knobby on the front for this event.

Do they allow quads at the practice, it doesn't specify what you can ride? I'm a lot better at sliding quads =P

And also do you think that track might be too big for a minibike like a KLX140?

I don't think there will be ATV practice for this particular weekend but I will check.

The KLX140 would be a lot of fun. Its just a half mile track and SupermotoUSA has an adult mini-class.
