Dirt Tire Recommendations

This is probably going to go the way of a "which oil should I use" thread, but here goes anyway.

I need to put new shoes on my kids CRF 150F. He is currently trail riding at Metcalf and will be going to Carnegie and Holister. These tires will also need to cover him for the upcoming StonyBARF trip.

Currently has Michelin Starcross MS3 tires on it.

Am looking at maybe getting the Kenda K785 Millville 2 and running them in the intermediate direction.

New to the dirty world, so just starting my journey into dirt tires. All advice is appreciated.

Dunlop AT81’s are famed by the older guys.

Motoz IT by the newer riders.

Golden tire front 216 100/90 (fatty) by a few.

I like the former. Will be trying the latter on my next set possibly.

Edit: this is just like an oil thread. For us newish riders who don’t burn through tires or race it is hard to get a feel for different tires to make a solid comparison. Tires also respond differently to varying pressures and whether you use tubliss or not. IMHO pressure has more effect than tire choice when you pick one of the top rated tires.

How much horsepower does a crf 150 make?
I'm guessing any tire that has a "knobby pattern", it's round, holds air, and fits the rim will work.

At a certain point, it more about tire pressure and rider skill. Especially on low hp bikes with newer riders. Even the less expensive Kenda Trakmaster would more than suffice for a newer rider on 150F. Just about any INT tire will work for him. :thumbup

Dude has a kid's bike with 16-19 rims and people are recommending tires that aren't made in that size. Listen to Eric B and OaklandF4i

Whoops, didn't read the 150 part. Anything round should work. :laughing

No worries. I also have a 450X, rubber is in good shape, but a bit old, so new tires on that one in the distant future. So your advice is not moot. Even if given out of context to the question at hand. :)
