Dirt Rider Magazine bites the dust

Got a lovely postcard from Motorcyclist Magazine yesterday letting me know that Dirt Rider had ceased publication after the most recent issue. They're going to send me Motorcyclist until my subscription runs out. Just FYI...

Some how I'm getting Motorcyclist now. I wonder if it's because Sport Rider went under?

So, is Motorcyclist even a magazine still, or just 8 pages with a subscription card and 5 pages of ads?

I got the postcard today as well.

I chose not to renew my Dirt Rider subscription some time ago; I just ignored all the "RENEW NOW" junk mail. But they kept on sending it to me anyway. Maybe that's related to why they folded...

I haven’t seen a Dirt Rider magazine in ages! Loved that magazine 20 plus years ago ... but TransworldMX and RacerX does such a great job covering the moto market. You will be missed Dirt Rider ... thank you for the early wealth of entertainment :thumbup!

I actually just mentioned this to a friend of mine. I've been reading DR on/off since the late 80s. Is there anything currently in print that covers the whole breadth of offroad like DR used to? Not that I don't love me some mx/sx, but i've always been an offroad rider (read: grew up with old non-jumping iron).

Didn't get a continuation of anything when Sport Rider turned to ash, so you lucky.

Dirt Bike Magizine is the closest to DR as far as coming trail / enduro stuff.

American Moto mags have been on the decline for years (but I still subscribed).
The content is just not there. I usually read through in one quick sitting with little reason to open the cover again.
Performance Bike and Fast Bike out of the UK, however, continue to hit it out of the park with depth and quality. It will take me days to absorb their content and usually save them to revisit.
We still have some good moto journalists but it looks like we are headed more to online content only here in the US.
My US mags hit the recycle bin in short order due to lack of any real substance.

I agree 100000% American magazines are just boring. With our liability laws they can't show any fun things like wheelies etc. The UK magazines are just worlds better. Smart, funny and still give the information.

I find myself part of the problem, unfortunately.....and it's my demographic they depend on as they cling to life on an ever shrinking vine.
I used to have subscriptions to Sport Rider, Motorcyclist, Cycle World and Dirt Rider....ongoing in some cases for actual decades yet one by one they seemed to evaporate over an unspecified but recent period of time. Some of it was on me as I allowed other forms of media to creep in to my reading time budget but some of it was on them as well. I will always read anything written by Peter Egan (for example) but as his presence in the magazine dwindled so with it went some of my interest.
All of this can be chalked up to self fulfilling prophecy stuff or even 'progress' itself but it really doesn't matter what you call it or chose to blame it on, it's happening. The print media is going the way of the dodo bird right before our very eyes. Personally I think it's a shame but I'll admit to some bias as I too seem to have more in common with that aforementioned extinct bird than I care to admit.
Perhaps all of this is a long winded way of reminding everyone how lucky we are to have City Bike in our very own back yard....and somehow it's free.
Support the sponsors and subscribe if you can but above all read it.

I tried emailing Bonnier corp about it last month but their website sucks. I was notified by Amazon that my subscription was ending but they charged me for something anyway.. Probably MotorCyclist, haha.

This sucks. Dirt Rider was very awesome coverage of racing, enduro, hard parts / gear / accessories, and had great photos and writing. Also, they kept me informed that Suzuki apparently still makes dirt bikes. :)
