The intent was to open back up the original thread, not to continue the original thread.
People are asking for the same in the animated gifs thread and the WTF thread. It's locked down for "discussion", not because someone is calling someone else something.
Locking the other thread is moderating with a sledge hammer. Target the individual who broke the rule, not everyone.

It's something that has come up repeatedly, Budman himself has asked ALL of BARF to follow his directions.
I don't agree with it either, believe me, but in an age where one person ruins something for everyone too easily, I'm not surprised. Especially with how many of us are posting Richard Butte references, and Tux's Duck Butt thread. It's like saying "We're going to follow your rules, but rub it in your face every chance we get."

Moderating a site like this isn't easy. A whole lot of unique personalities.
Having said that, I dislike that the thread was locked and I'm voicing that. I'm talking about the damn elephant in the room.

I'd throw in my hat saying that I think it's bullshit that anything posted in a NSFW thread, would be bannable because it is marked as NSFW when you enter the thread. If we want a family friendly thread, we should separate it.
But, I also understand that Budman doesn't want BARF to pop up when someone google searches "dick butt" or any of the images associated with that meme, and I support that.

You said it yourself, moderating this place isn't easy. To state the obvious, this place isn't owned by a corporation. One guy owns this place, and he's out of pocket for the operating expenses. He does this because he loves motorcycles and the people that ride them. He is one of the most generous guys I've ever met. He does more for motorcycling than anyone on this site, and likely anyone we'll ever meet.
He had a simple request. Link all DB images. He didn't ask to not post them at all. He asked to link them. Simple request, and seemingly easy to do. Dude owns the place and let's me come here for free. Seems like a no-brainer right?
We suspended a couple of people for not linking DB, and the vocal minority threw a fit. I warned 2 people, and the vocal minority threw a fit. What gives? Let me say it again, Budman made a simple request to link. LINK. Link the images. On his website.
A request was made.
Reminders were posted.
Many warnings given.
Suspensions made.
Not a single one of those things was acceptable to the Vocal Minority. Why? Why is it impossible to follow a reasonable request with reasonable and respectful actions? What type of person says 'f-your request' to the guy that openly maintains the website for you to use at no cost?

^^ Most of us have been very respectful of his wish to link the image. I highly doubt anyone posts it up saying eff budman and his anti-dickbutt agenda. It is a damn cartoon, in a generally racier part of a motorcycling website. I don't want to speak for Pete but he posted on facebook he simply forgot this time. :dunno
It is not fair to lump us all in together and punish everyone because somebody slips up every once in awhile. When it comes up people moan and groan but come on, that is on just about everything that is done around here.
It seems to me that the mods are the one taking a stand.

The mods really are being childish over this. It sucks that something as stupid as an overreaction to something equally as stupid as dickbutt can alienate so many long time members. I respect budman but someone has to tell the emperor that he isn't wearing any clothes

The problem isn't vocal minorities. It's that everyone is now being painted with the same brush. The vocal minorities will keep picking at the rules, trying to cirucmvent them however they can. They'll keep crossing the line. It's what they do.

It's more about the non issue of the content than the implementation of said content. It's also about the heavy handed nature that you mods use in situations like this.
And stop calling us minorities. We "minorities" have put together one of the biggest threads on barf and you guys just shit on us. Like I've said before, I don't really care for toilet humor like dickbutt either, but you mods are seriously overreacting and you need to reconsider your stance before you permanently alienate a large portion of the core users here

My $0.02 as the offender? First offense anyway; unlock the thread (please don't delete it, it's 3 years of cumulative lulz and another one WILL inevitably be started anyway - it's a great thread); I'll take a vacation, NBD. Everyone calm your tits. And suck it up and deal if you fuck up and break the rules, even by accident, no matter how stupid and arbitrary you may think the rules are.
