Custom fit earplugs + Speakers

So it looks like Fit-Ear has packed up and moved to Orlando these days. Loved their products.

I'm wondering if anyone has a recommendation on a custom fit earplug that can connect to an iPod for some music while riding. I'd like the clear, hard plastic ones as I've had good experiences with them in the past.

The challenge I'm trying to overcome is where to get the mold made. With teh moto show here it was easy to get molds made, but alas, that's not the case these days.

Do you know how these stack up against Plugfones? Been using them for years but if a custom item stays in well, produces quality audio, AND decent noise protection for a fair price, I'd be all about it for weekend rides

Some people like them Whammy isn't a fan.
Cost way way too much & after the first hour of them in "my" ears i claw at them to remove them.
Hell i came into the pits during a endurance race they hurt so bad.
I walked them over to the garbage and tossed them in.
That was the second set after they told me thats not normal.. like i said some ppl can deal with them, but not the Whammy.
Did I mention how much i dislike them?:thumbdown

I actually made a set of earbuds for racing communications using Decibullz.
Cheap and much more easier to put in and stand for long periods of time.

Just outta curiosity did you have your mouth open at all when making the plugs?

So these are like earbud phones + ear plug in one? It's too bad they are wired though. Earplugs doesn't sound good with Sena speaker =/

I had custom plugs made by Superior Sound Technology at a Road Rider event a couple of years ago. They didn't perform much better than traditional foam earplugs and didn't fit as well. Sadly, I got busy and forgot to have them remade (30-day limit on that, I think) so they ended up being useless. They'll also take molds and make custom earplugs with speakers. Prices were pretty high and you have wait a couple of weeks to get them. In looking at their website, it appears that these only provide 26dB of noise isolation, which isn't nearly enough IMO.

Just get a kit and do it yourself. I use the FUZE Bluetooth and connect to my phone but they have the FUZE Music for old school wired connections as well.

The kit works great and there is enough material with the kit to to do it twice if you make a mistake. Super easy stuff.

Pacific labs in San Leandro will make a custom mould for your ears and you can give them earbuds to go in them. $95 and well worth it. All the local Cops go there.

Left and right FUZE earphones are connected by a keeper cord (shirt-collar length) with a miniature Bluetooth receiver. Easy to operate play/pause/call, volume, forward/back buttons. Works with voice activation such as Siri and Cortana.

Does it interfere with helmet on/off, is clip big enough to fit on a collar of a leather riding jacket/suit?

Sounds like I'm waiting for 2.0 where the Bluetooth is built into the earpiece and functions all Offa voice. Interesting product, I was willing to drop $200 for a domio but the reviews are stating it sux when up at freeway speeds

Just between the earplugs and the Bluetooth clip on player. It is wireless from your phone to the Bluetooth clip on. You are not going to find an in the ear Bluetooth earbud that will work with a motorcycle helmet. It would not be possible to do a custom mold with a Bluetooth earbud due to the size of required for the extra electronics.

If you don't want any wires an intercom system is your only option. I gave up on those because I find it nearly impossible to lean up the speakers with my ears on my current helmet (Bell Star MIPS). It does have cutouts for speakers but they do not line up for me.

Molded earbuds are way better. You get ear protection and better sound all in one.

I've had a few different in-ear monitors over the years. The first pair I bought was from a Florida company called Alien Ears. They were cheap and great. Not the same as ultra high end IEMs, but great sound and fantastic isolation. The company was great, like really great customer service.

I also had Sensaphonics; they have a softer silicone mold. Isolation was actually a bit better, but durability was worse, and I can't find words to describe how shitty their customer care is. Avoid.

Also have ultimate ears. Great, but much more pricey, and even as competition at the high end has gone up, the ceiling on prices seems to go up as well. At the end of the day, there are countless choices for acrylic IEMs, and for most people, they work brilliantly.

I'll also throw in a shout out to Westone. I don't think their products are super high quality, but they do have some folks there that ride, so they can offer motorcycle friendly advice that others may not be able to. Regardless of who you buy from, you generally need to be fitted by a professional, and it might take a couple of tries to get it right, but when you do, nothing compares. I've literally worn mine on entire 12 hour flights with zero discomfort. I can't even wear the soft foamies that long.

Final thought... once you get the perfect fit of the IEMs, tossing on a helmet can ruin it all. When helmet padding touches your ear, it can break the seal & undo the noise isolation the IEMs provide, and it can cause discomfort. I ended up getting a different helmet to solve this problem, but it took some shopping.

My new shoei always dislodges my earplugs during on/off no matter how hard I squeeze them in, it's like this till the padding is used and abused, I recall my last shoei didn't really have this issue both rf1200s.

Like right now it's hard to chew gum in my new shoei, didn't have this problem with my other used up rf1200s shoei
