CSC RX4 Adventure Bike

There it is RX4 ready for Pre-order. Should be out early 2019. A little pricey at 5k-6k but you get a lot for your money. Half the price of the CRF450 and it's pretty much adventure ready.

The last thing I'm guna do is pick a bike made in China of questionable quality with no dealer network to do extended adventure travel on. WTF do you do if it breaks, wait for parts to come in the mail while stuck in some foreign country.

I just don't think their business plan works for long distance adventure travel. If I'm stuck 1000's of miles from home I want a name brand that is commonly worked on, parts stocked, and proven reliable.

I believe that Zongshen is the largest motorcycle manufacturer in the world on terms of numbers.

This bike looks promising as an entry into ADV riding. I would run it without those big cans and use a set of Kriega bags.

And 60+ mpg is nice.

Came across this thread in a search ...

Been thinking about getting one of these RX4s. But it is somewhat illogical.

They are $5400 new (plus CA DMV fees & tax), and that includes the plastic side and top cases (not the nice looking aluminum ones in the pics, those add about $450 to the price).

I can get a ~2015 KLR650 with ~2k-5K miles on it for $4000-$4500. Less weight (who ever used those words related to a KLR650!?), more reliable, ride for a year or two and sell it for $3500-$4000.

Performance wise, the KLR & RX4 seem kind of close ... just from searching and reading ... KLR more torque and low end pulling power, RX4 a bit zippier, more power at higher rpms. Seems KLR a bit better in the dirt, RX4 a bit better on the road (again, from searches/reading).

But then a KLR650 just seems so "normal" ... but the RX4 seems more interesting.

I wish Royal Enfield had a Himalayan model that made 40ish HP, just don't think I could live with ~24 HP.

Anyone get a chance to ride an RX4?

I love all those bikes the RX, KLR650, and the Himalayan. I've ridden the RX3 and Himalayan, I wish I could take the RX and himalayan for an adventure ride.

I have not ridden the RX4 it has just kinda dropped off the radar for me. If you are around Azusa, California you can probably test ride one at CSC.

Remember they don't sell the KLR650 anymore and the KLR650 is much bigger in my opinion at least the 2nd gen one is I have the 1st gen. Really the competition in this lightweight adventure category right now is:
Versys-X300
F310GS
Himalayan
RX3
RX4

The closest competitor I suppose is the Himalayan with it's 400cc motor but it's not that powerful a 400cc. The Himalayan makes 24HP and the RX4 makes 40HP! Big difference in power. Now I'll tell you my DR650 makes about 30HP and it's more than enough for adventure riding, but yeah it's a torque beast.

I think the deal breaker for me for the RX4 is how well it does the pavement, if it can cruise comfortably at about 70mph it'd be a winner. I remember the RX3 felt kind out of breath at freeway speeds. Your definitely going to have to be in the right gear.

The Chinese stuff just gets better and better! If you think about it's about half the price of the Tenere 700 that just came out, good value. You probably don't have to farkle out the bike as much also. But speaking of the Tenere 700 I love that CP2 engine I can't wait to ride one :)
