Crashed a month ago - 4 broken ribs, and a broken thumb

Like and idiot, I crashed a month ago and had a nice stay at the Stanford ICU for a few days. The first few days were brutal, I could not get up and walk, and I was in severe pain. I've broken other bones, but nothing compared to the pain of the broken ribs. When the ambulance hauled me off, I could not lay on the board w/o whimpering in excruciating pain! They shot me up with morphine, but it barely made a dent into the pain.

Anyways, a month later, and i'm still feeling the pain from the broken ribs. Sneezing and coughing has been my enemy. My thumb needed surgery (which I neglected) and I have barely any movement and I can tell that the recovery will take some time.

I had the bike fixed within a week of the accident, and yesterday I decided to take it up and down the street for a shake down run. On my way back from a 15-minute street ride, I get popped for speeding! I guess the universe is telling me i'm not ready to ride.. That may be a welcome sign, as my thumb was throbbing.

Anyways, I can't wait to fully heal up and ride -- I may actually need to re-break my thumb and do surgery -- we'll see.

I wore full gear with the exception of my armored pants which I really regret. I have road rash on my knees for the millionth time and I can still feel some pain.

I know my accident could have been worse, and i'm just glad I didn't hit anyone or anything.

Take care and ride safe!

Heh.

Wheres that pic of you with both your forearms in a cast posing on a Ducati bike :twofinger

Anyways, on a serious note. Sorry that you crashed dude, I never had broken ribs and from your description, I don't want to have to go through that.

Glad your in good spirits and out riding again, less the county sheriff pulling you over, but for real, they have something against KTM's. I got busted on my superduke near DeAnza a while ago.

It sucks, but heal up 100% before riding again. You should be all set and ready to go again in the spring.

Thats a nice KTM by the way :thumbup

Get better soon.
I know that feeling. Two months ago I broke four of my transverse process. (little bones that connect the spine to ribs) (fucking hurts!) you'll be back in no time.

after 7 weeks i started playing rugby again.
heal up.

Ribs suck. Memories of that have me feeling for you Stan.

Don't let AFM199 make you laugh. Put him on your ignore list until your fully recovered.

:p
Bummer on the ticket.. that is crazy bad luck.

Adverse Selection
Stan, I guess you're having surgery today, so best wishes for a successful operation and recovery. Sorry to hear about your crash, and like Tim, I'm curious about the details, but mainly glad you are on the road to recovery. Binned it myself back in October, and broke two ribs, so I feel your pain. It does get better.
