Close call: LEO

Not satisfied to just idle the track bike in the driveway I hopped on to take it around the block. Nothing extreme, just in first gear about 500rpm over idle because of wet road and an old set of Super Corsas. I also don't want to be "That Neighbor".
Anyways, I approach a corner and throw out the correct hand signal for a left turn when I notice a cop parked on the opposite corner. Thankfully he was making a house call, but he did give me a long look.

Anyone else take their track bike around the block and have an encounter?

noooo but

I did have to make a long uturn to trailer my track car once, and they followed me to the trailer as I put it on it. :p
They just wanted to make sure it was going somewhere it belonged besides the street.
Waved and drove off. :thumbup

Are we having fun yet?
I ride my dirtbike around the neighborhood once in a while to get the fluids circulated. It feels weird to have no mirror or turn signal on the street. Haven't ran across any LEOs. I do constantly fight the urge to take the bike path or run across school field.

This is from a time long ago in a land far away(Idaho) anyway the first episode Kaw H2 drag bike open chambers wheelie-bars-etc, so I'am making a few passes up and down 4th st in Twin Falls it's a 4 lane road so after 4 passes I can't get the slick to hook up just SMOKE, I pull into the shop and ask Jerry he owns the sales dept-to see if he can get it to hook up, so he is going to play it safe and go down the side street well he made it one block and then the sky lit up with the most beautiful colors of RED and BLUE, the only thing that saved him from an award was that they knew him.

I did the same with mine as I took it around the block to test the new brakes. local cop gave me the stink eye as I made a hand turn signal, but let me go.

Read a story on teh barf ages ago on a guy who took his up and down redwood road to try to reproduce a hot start issue he was trying to solve before a race... said he got picked up only after he'd pulled back into town. I'll try to find it again...

I think I came across that once in a search.
Going around the block is one thing, making runs up & down Redwood is a bit much and not likely going to get any sympathy from LEO.

Working on street legality right now. Still need to complete the Brake & Tail inspection and the CHP VIN verification.

Making it up as I go
I make that dirtbike debate often, even started a thread about it a while back, real frustrating not having a legal option for tuning it without driving to the park. I know that in all reality, SJPD has way more important things to do than respond to any call for a noise complaint in my neighborhood, but I also know that they're big fans of a food joint at the end of my block AND I'm right on the border of SCCSO territory so..... the debate rages on

'Around the block' out here, is about 60 miles. :D Probably still wouldn't run into The Law though. :thumbup

Edit: Gotta take that back. If I stuck to right hand turns, it's only around 32 miles.

I'm throwing this out for discussion. Please correct if you see a flaw.

If you or live in a single family home, your private road ends at the edge of your driveway. However, if you live in an apartment or condo complex, in many cases, there is an access road around the complex with parking spaces once you enter thru a primary or secondary driveway. I've seen exceptions but most of the time thus is how it's setup.

Technically the Leo has no jurisdiction to pull you over in the latter situation. You may be violating HOA bylaws or apartment regulations but a Leo should not be able to ticket you for putting around on an unplated or unregistered bike.

Now if you're doing stupid stuff like speeding or being wreckless, all bets are off.

Theoretically the helmet law should not apply either.

I ran into this in an argument with my HOA about some modifications to parking spaces that I disagreed with.

I just bought an RZ from a guy in Portland, and took it up and down the street a couple times when I got it home. Got on it a little bit because two stroke, and right when I pull a U-turn to go park it a cop pulls around the corner onto my street right behind me. :ride

No helmet, expired OR tags, not much of a paper trail for ownership, etc. I leaned over and stuck my hand by the carbs like I'm fiddling with shit, and just kinda idle slowly down the street to my house, pull into the driveway and jump off the bike and look at it with concern. :laughing
I had the Harley pulled out and a lot of tools there already so it looked legit enough for him to keep driving. :party

I know of a barfer who rode his trackbike to Hawthorne

The part where the group he's in gets pulled over by the CHP makes one funny story :rofl

Yessss that's it, good read!
Why thanks guys. That bad wire was the worst, as it wouldn't SHORT, but when the temp got hot enough, it would OPEN & the bike would instantly drop from 4 to 2 cylinders. Was ripping my hair out trying to find that one for months, & probably fell out of 3 races (at least) because of it.

I finally gave up & replaced the entire IGN harness. Bingo, solved. Never fell out of a race again over the next 3 seasons. How a simple semi-broken wire would open w/heat was just beyond me....
