Climate change surcharge coming to SF restaurants.

I wonder why they decided to target diners instead of some more significantly carbon-destabilizing business. It sounds like the money is being put to good use.

At least that's my hope. Corruption can happen anywhere.

For example, a $40 prix fixe will increase to a total cost of $40.40.

Every restaurant in California is invited to participate in Restore California.

Would you mind a 1% climate change surcharge?

Amazing logic.

More like reality:

$100 bill
1% = $1.00
3% health surcharge = $3.00
Taxes = $9.00
Tip = $20.00

33% higher than the menu price. And they're not paying their servers a living way but passing that cost onto us.

I don't eat out as much

I left the bay area, and at some point after years of living there I just kept the mental calculation in my head of the sum of the menu, and that the final total would by 1.3x-1.5x the figure in my head - which might get loose, depending on how many tasty beverages I'd had.

Every tab I see now is genuinely shocking. In a pleasant way.

Well they already have all my beverage container money, making it near impossible to redeem. Why don't they just give that money....oh wait, they need more.

Seems you didn't read past the headline, literally the second sentence says it's optional. :rolleyes

:laughing

i'm all for a not so optional surcharge on beef, lamb and other high climate impact food, at the restaurant and at the grocery.

More people eat in San Francisco than live and work in San Francisco. Need to stop that commerce viability.

Actually, I did. If you believe that money raised that way will be spend as promised, you are a gullible moron.

Except you didn't mention it anywhere in your title or your post. Which made it sound it's mandatory. Then when got called out on it got salty.

Ok. Next time I’ll post the whole article in the title. You know, to avoid misunderstanding.

So they’ll provide me with a bill with two totals or they’ll let me pay 1% less? Do I need to tell the waiter in advance ?
