Classified's "FIRM" prices, LOL

Aren't they kind of funny, in the way they're all obviously overpriced? :twofinger

My price is FIRM, means, "I'm trying to waste some time to see if I can get away with this obviously inflated price with little effort." :afm199

Would love to hear exceptions to rule. :ride

I firmly don't care. If it's overpriced and they want too much, ignore it. Who knows, they may sell it at their price and be happy.

"Firm" can make sense if you don't need to or care if you sell something. Basically asking someone to make it worth your while.

I've seen ads stay around for 5-6 months because someone is "firm".

That is all true. As I said, "have the bike and the time".

I just wish we had an ignore list for specific threads to check just the new rides (and not the bumps of the same olds).

I would mind less if there were no bumps, just genuine interest.

Or just do like I do and not have any money to buy another bike. That way you just look for fun and the price doesn't matter.

you can,

various search engines have the ability to tell you when the original craigslist ad was posted, and when it was last updated

very easy to spot a craiglist posting that was just recently updated but posted xyz dayzmonths ago. :thumbup

Not all of them. When I offered my bike for sale at $5,000.00 I indicated that I would not consider offers less than this. If nobody wanted to deal with me on the price, I would just keep it (not necessary to sell to help with my 2014 Yamaha FJR purchase).

A week later it sold for the asking price.

It's all good.

:laughing i was firm on my price, and i was easily $1k lower then the next bike in the bay area (09 r1) - i was right around low end of bluebook with 1k in mods on the bike still.

reading a ad that says firm on price - doesnt mean shit to me, it just shows me that I can get a better deal possibly by showing this guys ad and telling him about buying a similar bike priced for xyz less.

its simple then, just let them know im buying "this bike" will it be yours thats listed for 2k over or will it be the cheaper one listed around blue book?

then they think long and hard and realize

if joe schmoe had the same bike as me, asking 2k less then i am and am having issues moving it - maybe i need to drop my price too?

FIRM is just a way to avoid fuckers who will call you to harass you.

9K OBO just means I'll have a different asshole each day asking me if I'll take 6, and of course, they haven't even come to look at it. Even if you were desperate enough to agree to 6 it just becomes the *new* bargaining point for them-they show up, well you said 6 but I saw the tires are round, so I can do you a favor and give you 4. At which point I have to spend the rest of my day dragging them behind my truck and then burying them out in a lye pit somewhere. Just a royal pain in the ass.

Anything other than saying your price is firm is just an asshole magnet. BARF is slightly more tolerable about this but for the most part if I'm dealing with the general public the price is $X, no trades, cash only, or fuck off.

When people tell me they found one just like mine but cheaper I tell 'em to go buy that one.

Agreed, I've sold higher cc scooters on CL for way under a normal asking price (<$1000). When it came time for the sale, I usually bucked and gave it away for a little less than my "firm" price anyway. I hate selling on CL.

My favorite CL ad was a 690SMC that someone posted for $14,500 (listing all the add ons and labor). Last line said "I have agreed with my fiancée to sell the bike to help with wedding costs". Sometimes people don't actually want to sell the bike :)

In the last few months I have been on both sides of the selling and buying. I hate selling bikes and cars. Seems to bring out the the ass wipe types. I have never sold to one of these ass wipes nor have I ever bought from an ass wipe.
Back in Nov. I had my YZ450 on the market at a high book price, the bike had low hrs, new tires, new Renthal chain and sprockets. A few critical mods but in my world mods mean nothing when selling or buying a bike as far as price goes. All the ass wipe lo ballers came out in droves responding to the add but no real buyers. Want-a-Be's would respond with, Ya I can get this pro's bike with all the Gucci shit on it for X dollars. My response with that is always, OK good luck with that purchase. So in Feb. (prime riding time) I re-listed the bike but the price had fallen as time marched forward. Same add but with price adjusted and a fair just below the bike's top dollar. The bike sold to the first buyer, a young guy with a long drive, had cash so we were both happy campers.
On the other end of this I had been looking at GSXR 750's, RC51's and XB12 Firebolts.
Most sellers have ridiculous expectations of THEIR bikes worth in my opinion. Every Suzuki I found for sale was way over priced even the salvage title bikes. Some times by 3k. As with an automobile this cuts the price in half on the market. The RC51's were closer in the price range but I found the sellers stubborn to work a deal out.
Just being patient pays off when looking at used bikes. There is usually more sellers than buyers in this economic atmosphere.
Firm pricing wont stop me from trying to work out a deal. The ass wipe is always passed over unless he pays more. Back in "82" I had this happen when selling my 78 Super Glide. The buyer made the mistake of bringing along his "Harley Expert" friend. The buyer really liked the work I had done and the bike had a fresh engine. The expert started lo balling and I started raising the price. The guy says, hey you cant do that, I respond with the yes I can its my bike. So I tell the buyer to ditch the expert and come back another day. So he shows up 2 days later and buys the bike for asking price ( I was $500 high). So after getting the pink the buyer whistles and the expert drives around the corner. I smiled, gave the guy the keys and the he handed them over to the "Expert". This part is great. So the guy keeps stalling out the bike trying to take off, I said too much throttle and you'll kill it every time. The bike had the heads ported and a big cam with an S&S Super. These come without an accelerator pump. I said roll it on a little slower. The expert couldn't do it (OSB). So they wanted the stock carb. I said 300 bucks. So the guys wants to use my tools, I said no but I would change it. So they leave and I still had the S&S under my arm as a labor charge.
I know when they left I was Happy.
Here is a pick of that Harley

If the "Harley Expert" is watching BARF, your an Ass Wipe!

Nothing wrong with that. The world works in mysterious ways. I once saw a jar of sand that supposedly contained a soul (even came with a certificate of authenticity!) for sale on ebay for $800. Sounds reasonable that if I keep trying I can sell my bike for $3k more than it's worth.

Thanks hophead. I did have a bit of lost love with that bike as I put a lot of work into it. I sold that bike to go road racing with a Rotax and an ELR.
