he got tired of spending so much money on chain lube probably from over spraying the stuff

I like the comparison, thanks for posting.
Having dealt with both bicycle and motorcycle chains for a long while; chains have gotten better, and keeping them clean seem to be the best I can do.

I would still put in a vote for KY Jelly; nothing I have ever put it on has gotten rusty and is still good as new.

So KY jelly is as good as new after it was used on a chain.

Please don't tell me how you tested used KY jelly...

(from the Canadian branch of Revzilla?)

If you click a Fortnine link (in the US presumably) it redirects to the equivalent Revzilla page. So they are at minimum affiliated in some manner if not the same owners. Unclear why they would maintain separate brands in the latter case, maybe something to do with Cyclegear?

I wasn't sure if the video would be worth watching to the end, but I watched the whole thing and am actually quite impressed with how they tested the lubricants overall. I wish they had included DuPont Teflon chain spray, but I guess they couldn't test everything.

Maybe we could get a scientifically minded BARFer to do similar tests on all of our favorite lubricants that weren't included. :teeth

Really?
Hunting down a 75w-90 gear oil now. Found one on Amazon: Lucas 75/90 Synthetic Gear Oil

Doable.

I picked up a bottle at a local hardware store, but it's unwieldy to apply, so I ordered some small squeeze bottles from Amazon to make application tidier.

There is that...

I used gear oil for awhile, 6 months or so. Even after light applications, my bike would be covered in goop. Often there would be a little puddle of oil under the bike after coming to a stop/parked. :laughing

But the drivetrain did feel amazing...

Yeah, it's a mess. :(

This is where another poster's question about a chain oiler may become relevant. With their slow and consistent application of lubricant, maybe their use makes it a little less messy. :dunno

I've used gear oil, I've used solvent to clean, then hot grease in a tub to soak. Years of squirting lavishly, with all the mess.
Currently using Maxzma chain wax, very sparingly. Just get a slow trickle from the can and I follow a zig zag working along the rollers, one can lasts two, three years. Takes me 15 20 min. to lube, then let it sit for the day.

Both of these videos were great and very helpful to me. I've been using WD to clean and Dupont to lube. Anyone know where kerosene can be had in small quantity? Maybe a quart?
