center stand + wheelies

i just got a bike and never had a center stand before.

I'm afraid that doing 2nd gear wheelies and landing hard it may pop down and scrape. Even if this happens I do not think it would ever be a problem.

I was honestly thinking of taking it off to save weight but it is starting to come in handy and its growing on me.

anyone else have any experience with this???

you're good wheelie away, not going to be an issue. (otherwise even bumps might throw the thing down and that would be ridiculous)

i like 'em personally, it is extra weight but its a bandit 1200 not a lightweight bike to begin with, great to tool on your bike if you dont have trackstands or break down somewhere

Even if the center stand came down and touched the ground, it will just pop back up where it belongs again.

It's way easier to clean and lubricate the chain with a centerstand. Easier to pull the rear wheel off to replace tires too. And on most bikes there is a way to take the front wheel off using the centerstand as well, although taking both front and rear off at the same time requires a bit of creativity.

My Ducati ST2 came with the centerstand in a box and I put it back on. And left the one on my KTM. I vote for keeping it. :cool

Two issues really. The first stand that drags in a corner gets tossed. Otherwise they are very handy. Plus they make a great sparkler show on the freeway at night!

On the VFR it's as easy as yelling "Honey, come here for a sec"...having her push down the rear a bit, removing the front wheel and strapping down the bike to a handy-dandy milk crate I keep around for that very purpose. Easy, peasy. :thumbup

If your center stand pops down when you set down a wheelie, you are not doing it right. Slamming down the front can be REALLY hard on the forks, triples, and the frame. Gotta put that thing down softly, man.

95% of the time yes but sometimes after going beyond balance point and trying to drag the rear brake and give it a bit of throttle to come down slow it does not always go this way all of the time, just most of the time :thumbup

I pop wheelies off the speed bump in front of my place everyday I come home and have a center stand. I wouldn't remove the center stand at all, it's just to awesome and I have never had it scrap unless you count a slacking chain scrapping the shit out of it.

And I was all "Braap!"
I wheelie my FZ1 pretty regularly and have never even heard it clap against the frame. They're too useful to get rid of. I have a friend who religiously takes them off the bikes he buys and throws them away, only to wish he still had it every time he needs to do tires. (he doesn't have paddock stands, so it is quite entertaining to see some of the shit he comes up with to get his wheels off the ground). I'll cast another vote to keep it. If you hear it clinking around, replace the spring.
