So I have been noticing small sun damage on my cage. It is small enough at the moment that only I see it. However, it is getting bigger. What to do? :confused

if it's just beginning you can try to polish and wax it. if the clear is peeling it needs repaint.

Stop using dishwashing soap to clean it. :twofinger

You can slow it down a bit with some good hard wax.

I think there is also a polymer product that would protect it, cheaper than a re-paint.

Pics? Sounds like you said clear coat has failed.

The only proper way to fix is to have the area repainted--you cannot respray clear coat later.

I would recommend browsing the autogeek.net forums, do some searching for people in similar situations. It's probably best to throw a semi-permanent coating on top and leave it be, unless you want to repaint it. And in the future, proper maintenance will prevent that.

Merely Rhetorical
I was just talking with the neighbor, who has a newer red Lexus, and they are complaining about bird droppings and pollen damaging the paint. This is new to them as they stated their green Lexus never had bird droppings, and this is probably why. They consulted with expert car detailers and tried to get them to clay the stains out, but they said the paint is already damaged beyond simple repair, and would need a repaint. Now they
have been washing their car every day and, when I was talking with them, I noticed a pollen spot. I rubbed it off with my finger and there was a pockmark in the clear coat.

They just don't make paint the way they used to. I can't be bothered with such trivial things as paint. If the girls can look good wearing ripped, ragged, and weathered jeans, the same principle applies to my car.

A good wax should help reduce the amount bird shit will damage the paint. I have found that even a high quality wax has deteriorated after just a few months of exposure.

If the clear coat is gone, it's toast. You can put wax that's about it so it doesnt look as dull.

If it’s oxidized you can sand the top coat off on the entire panel/car and seal it back with clear coat. It won’t look as good as a new paint job, but it will hold for years.
