Cant edit in some threads

In some threads I post in the edit button doesn't appear next to the quote button. Something in settings?

By design. For instance, Best of Barf doesn't allow you to edit.

To add onto that, we've experienced a little, weensie, tiny bit of butthurt from members from time to time that causes them to want to take their proverbial balls and go home, e.g. scouring BARF of all of their posts or editing them pretty hard core. So we lock a few areas of the board here and there.

+1. Apples and oranges. We might be too PC, but that isn't related to this thread. I don't think... unless PC stands for "punctuationally chivvy"? I'm not sure that first word is a word and not sure those two work together, but I personally like the combo and am willing to run with it.

So this has been going on for at least five years?

I've been going to a number 24hour fitness locations since 1999 and have never witnessed anything like this. Of course I don't tend to pay too much attention to what others do in the locker room. But I did see a sign recently near the hand dryers in the Santa Cruz 24hour fitness that said the hand dryers were for drying hands only. I figured they could be rotated up and folks could use them to dry their hair as I once saw a couple of narcissistic guys doing at the bathroom in Harrods in London.

I recently discovered the joys of the bidet after a trip through Italy, France and Spain after I ate something that didn't agree with me in Milan. I had to watch a YouTube video to understand the procedure. Then they had this Toto seat in the bathroom of the hotel I stayed at in Hawaii that did a bunch of marvelous things. But that stuff all gets done in private.

I can't edit this post in the thread it's in. Why is that? There's one small error. Is there some reason why this can't be done?

I think the reason is because there's a fear that someone might not want to be held to something they may have said previously that they might want to change/ommit later.

One of the reasons I don't spend too much time on this site is because there's too much regulation.

You can't edit in "Best of BARF" subforum because it's in that forum--reasoning has been presented above. It's not everywhere--you just edited your earlier post in this thread. Like you said, it's one small error. Either don't worry about it or contact one of us mods to give you a hand. Sorry that you feel that this is cramping your style. We do the best we can with the way that Bud wants to run the place and what the software allows us to do.

What other forums do you visit that have less restrictions? I find that the ones I go to are much more heavy handed. :dunno
