what up brothers.
so i have a cbr 929 and and today she started making this rattling sound on the right side of the engine. bike starts no problem but as soon as i put it in gear and pull away, the rattle starts. its like clack clack clack and only does this at low speed. so i think its the cam chain tensioner .
input? tnx

Man behaving bikely...
Cam chain ten would rattle anytime the engine is running... rattles while in
motion are most likely drive chain slap or loose exhaust pipes...

ahhh i feel like a just dodged a bullet here.
yes, i modified the side exhaust, welded some pipes together, got an undertail exhaust and now i have a cbr 929 with undertail exhaust. the whole thing was made by me and i have noticed that where the can meet the exhaust pipes, there is a little mark indicating theu where separated by at least 1/4 of an inch. so yeah im gonna check that, however, that doesnt explain why the rattling noise is comming near my right leg.

i picked up this bike like 3 years ago, she was pretty messed up, mixed up vac hoses, running on 3 piston etc etc .
i fixed her up but never replaced the chain which im sure its very old.
i also noticed that when i pull the clutch the clacking stops...

yeah i agree, something is wrong with the clutch.
tnx bros.

im back with the diagnostic.
tuned out to be a slapping old chain.
also, when i took off the clutch plates to do the inspection, i noticed two metal rings at the far end of the basket, one of them was bent inwards and it was rubbing against one of the clutch plates, eating out half of the clutch plate, the manual does not show those two rings at the enda of the basket.

The 2 metal rings are the spring seat and the judder spring. They belong there and the friction plate that goes against the back of the clutch center or the first plate installed has a larger inside diameter than the rest of the plates although that has another plate that may have the larger ID as the last friction plate installed.Maybe that's why it appears the judder wore the plate but pretty unlikely. Go to a dealers website and look at the clutch parts diagram and it will be clearer. When a clutch rattles it's usually wear in the rivets that attach the driven gear to the clutch basket.
