California: Gov. Brown signs bill to end motorcycle-only checkpoints

On July 13, California Gov. Jerry Brown signed Assembly Bill 1047 into law, which prohibits motorcycle-only checkpoints. The law will take effect on Jan. 1, 2013. This is a great accomplishment for the entire motorcycling community.
Introduced by Assemblyman Kevin Jeffries on Feb. 18, 2011, the bill prohibits law enforcement agencies from establishing checkpoints where the only vehicles subject to inspection are motorcycles. The Assembly passed AB-1047 by a vote of 55-5 on Jan. 17, and the Senate approved it on June 28 by a vote of 36-0. The American Motorcyclist Association and ABATE of California applaud Assemblyman Jeffries for introducing this bill and thank Gov. Brown for his signature.
On July 16, the AMA sent a thank you letter to the governor. To stay informed of the AMA’s efforts on the motorcycle-only checkpoint issue, go to http://www.americanmotorcyclist.com/rights/motorcycleonlycheckpoints.aspx.

What's the purpose of motorcycle only checkpoints in the first place?

Never really heard about them.

I have seen a couple..

Leaving the MX of Nations in Colorado they were pulling over all moto's.. I was in a rental car and they just sent me by.

They were looking for (my guess):
* Drunks
* Hot bikes
* Parts Violations
* Dennis Hopper

They had several dudes in cuffs that look like your typical RUBs..
Couple of bikes on trailers.

Easy pickens I would surmise at a big motorcycle event like that.

I felt terrible for the bikes all being held and us cage f@cks getting a free pass.
