Sickening.

"State Parks Director Ruth Coleman resigned this morning and her second in command has been fired after officials learned the department has been sitting on nearly $54 million in surplus money for as long as 12 years.

"The department sat on the money for unknown reasons even as it carried out, over the past year, the unprecedented closure of 70 parks to satisfy state budget cuts."

... and from SFGate:

"As a result, Laird said, state officials were unaware of $20.3 million in the State Parks and Recreation Fund, and $33.4 million in the Off Highway Vehicle Fund."

:wow

Nice job Park system.. :thumbdown

A perfect example of why we argued with Simitian that the $$ taken would be wasted and misused by a malfunctioning system.

Don't know.. hope is it will go into operating funds.. or replace some grant money that has left a bunch of good people and good projects treading water trying to figure out if they can continue.

Something positive.. PLEASE!

silliness....

Normally I'd say write your representative, but it may give them ideas on how to steal the money for something else...:(

sadly none of the found moneys are going to be used for the "people" by keeping the parks open or even fixing some things that are broken in the parks.
the money will be dumped into the gen fund and spent five different ways.

if we were to spend like the government we would be dumped into prison for 40 years for embezzlement and fraud.

why are both of these people still walking around free. give them a room in folsom..and i mean the prison.

Why the OHV fund keeps soo much unspent is baffleing.

Wait, ya, I remembered, the GREENS control how the OHV funds are spent.

Trying to keep the crisis based in fact: We don't know what will be done with the money that has been found, but the best thing we can do is support the call for the Independent Audit that has been requested by Assemblymember Gaines.

Finding out the truth is job #1. We've already been talking with people in the legislature, making sure it's understood that the OHV Trust Fund monies HAVE TO STAY in the OHV Trust Fund, and it's been well received. That's the good part.

What you can do now?

Support the Independent Audit by calling your representative and asking them to support honesty and clarity. How could they say no to that? How could fighting for truth, justice and the American Way ever be wrong?

Ca State Parks Foundation is caught fibbing!

http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la...,3856220.story

CORVA stands up for off-roaders throughout California, while the Ca State Parks Foundation is caught fibbing! The Ca State Parks Foundation and it's representatives have repeatedly lobbied legislative members to take money out of the OHV Trust Fund, and testified against the operations of the OHV Division. Now they're trying to say they support us? Please......we know the truth!

Tell the CA State Parks Foundation that they are lying!
