In case you need to transfer a title or something there is a neat little portal setup now (I haven't used it yet):
https://virtual.dmv.ca.gov
Hopefully it works well.

Also PSA if you live on the peninsula Nuro is now authorized to operate driverless delivery veh. in Santa Clara and San Mateo counties, including portions of the cities of Atherton, East Palo Alto, Los Altos Hills, Los Altos, Menlo Park, Mountain View, Palo Alto, Sunnyvale and Woodside.
Only 2 but keep head on a swivel

Whammy did the DMV Kiosk in my local Safeway to renew my truck reg.
Less than 5 mins including the swiping of the debit card.
Of course they charged me 2% extra or something like that to do it that way.

I was able to do the online renewal for one of my cars and the bike.

Unfortunately, my second car is in limbo. It is a pre-owned car that I bought from a dealer in Arizona and had shipped here. It has been smogged and I've paid the registration fees etc. but the DMV needs proof of title or registration, and this is all in transit from Arizona DOT. So, still have paper Arizona plates and probably will for a while.

I've been working with DMV to transfer title on a bike I just bought. Simple title transfer, everything good. You send them a .jpg of the title. Been going back and forth via email because I forgot to put the purchase price on the back of the title. DMV has been very responsive until 2 days ago when I sent them a .jpg of the title with the amount filled in. Silence.

I think dmv is still working out the kinks to the virtual field office. I heard that dmv has been working on a virtual field office for a couple years and covid19 made dmv speed up the process.

If your local dmv has a dropbox use it for renewals/title transfers/ medicals transactions are /will be processed there. If anything else is needed forms/signatures/ money will be mailed back with info needed.
From my experience

Dravnx it sounds like your transaction is complete. You'll probably get an email saying something about sending your documents to a department (dmv) Sacramento.

Any update on this?
I bought a bike a week ago and submitted the forms and everything. Got a confirmation email but nothing since. Any recent experience with this?
Thanks

I got an email saying my Transfer of ownership was successfully processed and that I'd get the title in approx 14 business days almost immediately after I submitted my documents (same day). I just passed that mark this week and haven't seen it in the mail yet.

I had no option to pay any fees and the DMV employees I have asked didn't have an answer about that part.

Interesting. Thanks Rebecca. Maybe I'll give it another week and re-submit.

Try checking the registration fees with their online calculator. If they're processing already, it will return a message saying so and won't work.

I bought a bike in Oregon in March and rode it back on a temporary Oregon "trip permit". It now has no plates at all (seller kept them), and it needs an inspection to confirm age/mileage.

I had an appointment at the DMV, and they completely closed the day before my appt :(

The fees now include a $30 "CHP Penalty", a $30 "Current Registration Penalty" and a $10 "Use/Sales Tax Penalty" and a $3 "Current Vehicle License Penalty"... So basically $73 of additional penalties!

Is there any way I can get out of those additional fines by showing that I had an appointment scheduled? If not, are they gonna get any higher? Can I just send them a check - if so, how do I do that?

I feel like I'm missing something obvious, but I didn't see anywhere on the dmv.ca.gov site where I can just send a bunch of forms and a check and it will be 'solved'... Maybe that doesn't exist?

To be clear, I know that I can write to the DMV at their postal address (Vehicle Registration Operations, Department of Motor Vehicles, PO Box 942869, Sacramento, CA 94269). But should I send through the originals of all my documents? Is that just ASKING for things to get lost?

Frankly, if the fees aren't going to increase (and there's no way I'll get those fees dropped), then screw it, I'll keep riding the bike until the DMV reopens.

I bought a new Chevy Colorado on Feb 28'th.
Got the title two weeks ago.
Haven't seen the plate or registration yet.
Called the dealer and they ran a DMV check which shows a plate number and reg paid until 2/28/21. Dealer said I need to contact DMV about the missing plate.
He sent me a copy of the report and it shows the sale on 2/28/2 and the last DMV action on 4/14/20. I'm hoping that it's just sitting in their mail room waiting for someone to mail it.

Calling DMV just gets me recordings to go to their website as their offices are closed.
There is NOTHING on their website to address missing (new) license plates. Their web robo thing just kept telling me to call the number that referred me to the website.

I'll carry the DMV report printout with me "just in case" until I can get thru to the DMV.
Anybody got a DMV phone number that gets to a human?

Look around for a DMV registration service office in your area.
similar to this place. They should be open i know this one is.
https://www.californiacartags.com/
There are offices in your area, so google DMV registration service
If you have the paperwork or not they will help you with everything.
7500 miles, on the bike, and the engine number and vin verification is all you need to have done. No inspection unless the bike is been put back together from salvage. The reg should be done in a day or so and the title the standard two weeks.
Easy stuff, don't wait on the DMV monkeys :ape, because despite all the covid grace period crap that has been put out i personally wouldn't count on it.
Sacramento will screw you even if you are right.

Still going back and forth with DMV.
Submitted copies of signed title. Heard nothing for a couple of weeks. Emailed them, got a pretty fast reply that I forgot to put purchase price on title. Resubmitted copy of title. Heard nothing for a couple of weeks. Emailed them and they told me to submit fees. Submitted fees, waited a couple of weeks, emailed them. They told me I needed to submit original title. Mailed title. Waiting.
Kinda wish they would tell me the process instead of feeding it to me a bite at a time.
I've been carrying a copy of the title, correspondence from DMV and proof of insurance in case I get stopped by LEO.

I’ve been going through this with my bike which I recently bought. I need to transfer title and get a new license plate.

I went back and forth with them until last week when they asked for $3xx.xx in fees. I paid it and got a confirmation number with a message saying that I will be contacted by the DMV when my request is being actively worked on.

I’ve only ridden the bike a few times, because I don’t want to get pulled over for expired tags, but this is a bit crazy - especially considering that I’ve submitted all the paperwork and paid all the fees.

Like the other member I’m thinking of just riding with a copy of my insurance and paperwork in case I get pulled over..

Has anyone successfully transferred a title via DMV’s new online system?

I’ve been in the process since mid-April and paid all the fees (online) on April 28th. I haven’t heard back since, and there is no way to contact them. I tried replying to the email chain we have (most recently on 5/5/20), which worked in the past, and I haven’t heard back.

WTF!

I'm in a similar boat. Usually takes at least a few days before getting a reply. Makes me wish I bought an AAA membership.

Seriously

I really F’ed up by not just going to my buddies shop who does DMV services. I would’ve paid for it, but it would’ve been much better than sitting in limbo like this.

Good luck man.

I’ve been at that stage for 19 days (since 4/28). F’ing ridiculous.

I’m sure that the DMV employees are making sure only to complete whatever number if requests they would under normal circumstances. For example - if they usually serve six people/ hour (one every 10 minutes) in the office, they’re now answering six emails/hour. :(

If anyone gets by the “payment review” stage, please let us know how long it took and if you did anything special.

I’ve replied to the “payment request” email and ... crickets
