Buying out of state bike this second and need help quick

I'm just about to drop $2K on a 2007 TW200 just to find out it's an Alabama bike. I can see no emissions sticker claiming its a 50-state bike and it has less than 7500 mi. The shop is saying it should be no problem to get a Cal plate on it. They are saying it is exempt from inspection so I can write in as many miles as I want on it or I can continue to have Alabama reg until it has 7500 miles and then register it in California. This is bullshit, right?

The first part is bullshit. The second part (waiting until it had 7500 miles to register in CA) is definitely bending the rules, but it's been done before. Just don't get pulled over before you hit 7500!

Oh, and if the bike is already in CA, and somebody had tried to register it previously and been rejected (due to it not having 7500 miles), then it's been blacklisted and can't be registered in CA, period.

I asked the seller why as he's the only person who can legally register the vehicle in California has he not registered it yet and he responded the title is not in his name. Well, then how the hell am I supposed to register it? He honestly suggested I attempt to register it and when the dmv sees it only has 1300 mi on the clock to tell the dmv the actual mileage is over 7500 but I had to replace the speedometer recently.

I'll be taking my money elsewhere.

Side note, is $2K for an immaculate 2007 TW200 over-paying? I've been scouring craigslist for some time and I have never seen one go for less than $2000.

DO NOT BUY THIS BIKE. I had a guy try to pull the same scam on me before. There are very few 50-state commercial motorcycles. If you REALLY want this bike, do what I did:

1) Call manufacturer to verify that a 50-state version does in fact exist
2) If it doesn't, walk away if the bike doesn't have a sticker EXPLICITLY for California
3) If it does, very carefully check to make sure it is California compliant

Honestly, walking on it is the way to go though. Sounds sketch AF.

Yeah don't do it. DMV will want to see the sticker, not some lame "I had to replace the speedometer " story. I registered an out of state bike earlier this year and it was a bit of a hassle.

The person who moved to CA and brought here could actually register the bike, but you cannot. As others have said if someone tried to register but got blocked then the bike is blacklisted. You will not be able to register it. Definitely leave it.

I bought a motocross bike once from a guy with a title that was not in his name. And someone had altered a date on the title. I didn't bother to get a bill of sale when I bought it and it took me two months to get a bill of sale from that guy. The biggest issue was that he lived 160 miles away. I finally had my brother-in-law track him down at his place of work and get a signature on a bill of sale that I had written up. For some reason, once he had the money, he wasn't interested in helping straighten it out anymore. :mad

I will never again buy a bike with a title that doesn't match the person selling it.

California sucks. Get a drill, add miles to the odometer, enjoy.

I have. The best I could get with my fastest drill was 45 mph. How long do you think it would take to add 6000 miles at that speed?

Five and a half days! Do you have a drill that can run at full speed for that long without burning out the motor? :rolleyes

Here's the photo of me adding a few hundred miles to a newer odometer to get it to exactly match the old one before swapping it out:
