Buell Blast - any real experiences?

wow, ratsblast is a guy who deeply knows -
my hat's off to you, Sir

OP, there's no way I'd deliberately buy a Blast! in Reno,
unless I knew a willing, local Sportster mechanic

once you know what to do to one & have wrenched on it enough,
the Blast! battle starts turning yer way

my pal, Terry, has established numerous Bonneville records
aboard his [635cc ?] Blast! - his shop @ Sears Point
can tell you things, just as Ratsblast has

in closing, surely a 250 or 500 Kawi makes the most "sense" -
neither offers the undeniable impact of arriving via Blast!.....

:rolleyes The point of the disclaimer in my very first post was that 1) those "deals" everyone refers to are few and far between and 2) there's always some major red flag that doesn't make it a deal. I could literally buy a plated, registered, titled, running automobile cheaper than a ninjette any day of the week. Yet people seem to insist these iunicorns are all over.

All I asked was for opinions on the Buell.

Regarding the ninjette in SF with the LA phone number: I offered to pay the fee for the duplicate title plus throw him an extra $100 on top of his full asking price for the trouble. He told me he doesn't want to bother and has people lined up to buy it with only a bill of sale. Good on them.

fun times.....

Erik himself crushing that corporate-mandated new rider training bike was controversial, to say the least

after all of H-D's endless meddling with numerous Buell designs, that act had to feel awesome!

I always felt that was a dumb and insulting corporate statement to make. When H-D wadded up his brand and threw IT away it seemed kharmic in a fashion.

Had a bud order one up when they were FIRST released - a Harley devotee, he wanted one for his wife. She never really warmed up to it, and it required more attention than I ever imagined to keep it running - the first few batches had some issues, it seems.

Anyway, when it WAS running well I took it for a spin and felt it worked fine - a completely capable around-town gofer, nimble and easy to handle, if a bit cramped for an adult male. My diminutive wife took it for a spin - she rode a Bandit 400 (GS400F) at the time - and didn't care for the Blast! at all - probably the thumper's distracting vibes - but for whatever reason, was NOT impressed at all with it.

Personally, with all the variety of small bikes now available out there, it wouldn't be my choice.

With all the choices out there, why would you sell yourself short with a buell?

More rhetoric - yet no one has offered an actual real world alternative. Strigois sig seems to indicate he doesn't even have a bike. :laughing

This is a late model, low mileage, $1000 bike. I still haven't heard back from the guy, so who knows. I've also found a nice GS500, but it's older, higher mileage, and further away. I'd prefer the parallel twin to the thumper though. It's one reason why I sold the KLR. Also thinking about the yellow ninjette in the classifieds.

The issues they have is rattling themselves apart

That was what I noticed. I knew a guy with one as a starter bike back when they were new, and I had a used GS500. I was shocked at how uncomfortably vibe-y his was, especially at speed. It made my GS500 feel refined.

To the OP: Patience and regular scanning of Craigslist. The deals are out there, you just need to be ready with cash to go nab it right away when they come up.

What i like about my blast is it is low maintenane. No chain to lube, sprockets, valve adjustments, has plastic gas tank, they are easy to live with. If you get one that hasnt been beat to shit they are good for 30k easy miles, after that you are gonna need to do a top end and piston/ring, after that trans will fuck up. Thats it.

So essentially it is half my bike...

I have seen good deals on XB9s in the 3k range...

I had one as a daily commuter, put on 22K miles over about 2 years. Mine was totally stock, never had any trouble with it, cheap to run, very simple bike to work on.

all i know is that everytime i have a bike for sale on craigslist, without fail, someone will offer to trade for a buell

My buddy had a Buell until, by mistake, he left his garage door open one night. Now he has two.
