On Tuesday in Santa Monica, Calif., BMW Group debuted a motorcycle concept so artificially intelligent that it eliminates the need for the rider to wear protective gear, including a helmet...

I don't see how this would make protective gear useless... will it stop a car from running me over?

I'm also skeptical that it will never tip over or crash due to a rider's input...

the bike is from the vision 100 thing BMW is doing. It's an exercise in fantasy about what motorcycles/vehicles might look like in 100 years. You think people will still be driving cars in 100 years?:laughing

here's an interesting article about the suspected viability of some of the tech

As a styling exercise it's interesting. I like that no fasteners are visible. Very sleek. Very clean.

From a practical standpoint, no thanks. If I wanna ride something that thinks for itself... I'll rent a horse. :p

Why do I get the feeling the design team took a lot of cocktail lunches and skivved off to a bar during the creation if this... thing.

Nice concept! But anything that's man made will have flaws sooner or later...and those flaws usually will cost someone grave injury or even their life. Does it prevent debris & bugs from peltering the crap out of you since you don't have to wear a helmet?

If this "smart bike" is the future,
I'm thankful that I don't have more years ahead of me, than I do. :afm199
