Bikes and fastrak

Stay Present
Newb question.

If I leave my fastrak in my jacket pocket would the toll be able to register the toll?

If not, what's the best way to position the fastrak when crossing the many tolls around this area.

Thank you.

pocket should be fine. They also use your license plate if the transponder isn't detected so make sure you register your m/c to your account.

When I was regularly riding across the SFOBB and the Benicia-Martinez Bridges I usually had mine in my Givi topcase or I just left it in my truck.

It's not my fault...
+1 on leaving it in the work truck. Make sure your m/c is on your Fastrak acct and you're good to go.

Apparently the license plate reader doesn't ever work. I thought my plate was on my account but I went over the BB a thousand times before I got some hate mail from the toll authority with a picture of my plate and some modest monetary demands. I had forgotten to put my plate on my account. This indicates to me that their license plate reader doesn't work or barely works. I don't even have a tail-tidy or anything like that and I always go 25MPH through the plaza.

Register your plate/vehicle on the Fastrak site and it will just work. I keep the transponder in my vest and it is rarely detected but Fastrak tracks the toll by the plate and charges accordingly. I commute over the CQ bridge daily and have never had an issue.

I've tried various locations for the transponder on my Beemers. Nothing seemed to work, not even jacket pockets. The plate reader works really well......on my R1100S, I lost my plate. Went to DMV got a new plate ten several days later started getting till violation notices daily until I updated my account to add the new plate. I'll have to check my next account statement BUTT I don't think the transponder is ever recorded when I'm on a bike (95+%).

Register your bike to the account. Leave the transponder at home. I only get charged about half the time :thumbup

If it doesn't work, how did they send you a letter?

I seldom carry mine. I always get charged from the license plate.

They automatically registered my bike's plate after going over San Mateo bridge. No transponder required.

but that doesn't always work. They'll send you a letter. I don't think there's a fine attached, you just have to even it up w/fare payment. a mini-PITA.
I have my trnspndr on top of the cluster beneath the blacked out fairing...seems to work everytime.

Both of our shop trucks are just registered to the the account that we have and we've never had an issue. Neither one has the Fastrak physically in it.

Yeah, for cars and trucks it seems to always work. The motorcycle plate is a lot smaller.

I put it in my jacket pocket and it rarely works. I have the SoCal version, so I can hear it beep if it picks up. I haven't kept track of how often the plate reader works, but I'm pretty sure I get charged a lot less than what I go through. Like others said, as long as you have your plate registred with Fastrack, I wouldn't worry about it, and you could leave it at home all the time if you wanted.

I registered the plate and have had no problems. I think they might have missed a charge or two, but like I said no problems

I never carry the transponder, and it always automatically reads my plate. Unless I tailgate another car and drive on the far side, then it doesn't get billed to my fastrak

maybe the transponder info is 'stacked'. I.D. confirmation first, account info next, and actual passage confirmation last, and shit got fucked up between the last two operations. Plus, their system s probably being constantly revised, and the anomaly might have happened in 'squirrel' time.

One caveat on fastrak accounts....make sure that you check your account every couple months, fastrak has some corrupt employees because twice I've had somebody else add a vehicle to the account that wasn't mine. Both times it was called in and they supposedly had my password/pin. That is highly unlikely and you wouldn't notice it for years if you let them automatically charge your credit card, which most people do.
