Best wedding gift ever?

My wife and i got married earlier this month and she surprised me on our wedding day with the best wedding gift ever; the keys to a brand new Ducati Supersport 939 S. Here's a picture of us picking it up a few days later. Needless to say, the bike is amazing and is exactly what I was looking for. I've have owned many bikes in my riding career and usually have more than one at a time. She knew the I always wanted a Ducati since I was in high school mainly because I'm always bringing it up, but I never expected her to go out and buy me one. I will be selling all my current bikes soon, as this one covers nearly all of my wants (I'll miss the supermoto though).

Dude, nice bike. Nice, wife. Yea, she's a keeper. Does she have a single sister? :teeth

She does have 1 sister, but she's not single. But between you and me, you're better off single :laughing

I'm gonna cry.. Congrats! :)

Seriously. Ladies, you want to make sure your man cries on your wedding day? But him a Motorcycle :ride

Nice. :thumbup

Did she take out a (large) insurance policy too? :laughing :later

No, but I'm pretty sure she remembers filling out the beneficiary form from my employer when I was first hired :nchantr

My only question is... did she use a joint account or her own money? My wife surprised me by being the "mystery buyer" for my NC30. Of course the money came from our joint account.....

That's great! She knows you well enough to make a major purchase like that and has her own money. As the sole bread winner in my immediate family I frown upon such "gifts". But whenever I mention a cool gadget or a new moto my better half encourages me to go get it.

Congratulations on the wedding to an AWESOME woman.

Oh, and congrats on the bike, too :p

haha thanks!

i found out early on in our relationship that my money is hers and her money is hers... haha. it's for the best, otherwise i would have spent all my money on useless knick knacks and beer.

I know where you're coming from. when she was in school, we were living off a single income, and not a good income at that. i used to always joke that when she graduated and got a job that she would owe me a Ducati. then i used to joke that after i got her the engagement ring that she would owe me a ducati. looks like she eventually held up her end of the bargain haha.

she didn't go in blind on the purchase though. she knew that i wanted a ducati, but wasn't sure which one. so she had one of my riding buddies (best man at our wedding) start digging and trying ti figure out, but it still came down to a guess because i was in between the hypermotard SP and the supersport s. better that they decided for me as i probably couldn't have made that decision on my own.

(I don't mean for this to come across the wrong way, the internet and all -- I mean what an awesome gift, congratulations, what a surprise)

I see things like this, where Spouse A surprises Spouse B with Large Gift. And I was always curious how folks pulled it off.

You know, like the car commercials at Christmas where "surprise" there's a brand new car sitting in the driveway.

Now, we managed to buy a new car for my wife 18 months ago. We ordered it, and the car dealer called me to announce the car was ready to be picked up, and I had them put a big red bow on it (it was basically Christmas time) for her.

But, you know, the car was hardly a surprise. The bow was a surprise, but not the car. And, yes, she was excited. The bow was a nice touch.

For most folks something like a car is a pretty major purchase not subject to whimsy, and the cost consideration is something to be considered. And obviously some couples are much better off financially to be able to casually drop something like that on the other.

But, most aren't. I know I couldn't do that. The Look and Glare it would cost much more than any surprise I might be able to evoke from my wife.

So, I was just curious how folks pulled that off. Every relationship is different, I guess.

Again, congratulations.

in the case of the OP it's clear that the purchase had been discussed over years...the surprise was that she pulled the trigger before he did

this is pretty much how it went. she was really sneaky about it though by having my friend bring it up... "Have you seen the new supersport?"

from there, i started researching the bike and others in that price range as a what if i sold all my current bikes and bought one new bike scenario. then, like most things i want to buy, i started working on my wife telling her my plan and how much i would get from selling my current bikes and how much room i would free up in the garage ect... the genius thing on her part is that she played along and kind of seemed open to the idea, which is what really threw me off. i was talking to my friend saying that i think i had convinced her to let me buy a new bike even though she had already planned to get me this.

i, of course, still need to sell all my current bikes to recoup some of the cost, but since this bike covers most of my riding needs, i don't have a problem selling them.

gifts like these never really happen between us, usually it's just normal stuff like clothes or concert tickets. another reason why it was such a surprise.

No, that's great.

That's "kid time christmas".

When I was in 8th grade, my Mom took me to the hardware store. Staying in the car, she said "Go on in and pick up the rake I bought".

"OK"

So, I go in, get to the cashier.

"Yea, I'm here to get the rake my Mom bought."

"She didn't buy a rake."

*sigh* Cashiers -- just filled with stupid people, ya know?

"Look, my Mom said to come in and pick up the rake she bought."

"Yea, but she didn't buy a rake."

English? Is that the problem? Cognitive dissonance? What part of "My Mom said" doesn't she grasp!?!? Where do they get these people??

She then points over her shoulder, "She bought that".

And it was a new bike.

FOR ME!!!

:banana:thumbup :party:love:blush

So, yea, "kid surprise". Wasn't even my birthday.

Hard to do to adults.

Taze away, Yana...
"I have to sell all my bikes to make it work" is not much of a gift, it's more of her cleaning the garage out while using your money, and time to do it.

You got played hard, but at least you bought yourself a new Ducati While it went down.

lol, ok dude. considering the bikes it's replacing and the fact that selling them will only cover about half the cost of the new bike, i'd say it's an awesome wedding gift. plus, the garage is a dedicated man cave. cleaning it out only benefits me.

Agreed. Congrats on both the wheels and the marriage. :port

thanks bud :thumbup
