Best excuse to say to Officer

This would be very rare.

In my department it would require a memo form sorta thing that goes all the way up to the chief. There'd have to be a really good reason.

I forgot which PD it was. It was a ticket for "blocking driveway" or something like that. A karen called the cops on me for being in my car on the street, I was writing something on my laptop. About an hour after he left he called me and apologized for it and said don't worry about the ticket. Never heard about it again. :wtf

Was it a parking ticket? Sounds like it. Not generally supposed to void those out either, but a parking ticket is different than a "notice to appear" traffic/criminal type ticket. Probably easier for the officer to just void one of those if he wanted to.

Great Line

I just heard a classic line :
“ A good cop will never let you know that he knows that you are full of bullshit. “

I’ll leave that right here :teeth

Just for the record , a police officer has the power by code to Dismiss his own ticket. Not sure why you are told that you are not supposed to. You just have to ask permission.
The law gives you that discretion to use properly and in the right situations to acknowledge the potential for human error.

Edit. I was wrong. It’s Ca VC 40500 ( d) of the vehicle code and as Bojamgle said while an officer can do this at his discretion he had to submit it for review to both his office and the court for final determination once it is issued. Just voiding a ticket is a violation of 40500 ( a) and (b) for both citizens and officers. Even if they are just trying to do a good thing.
