BARF - LOST and FOUND???

Wut, bodda you?
Time: 1430 hrs
Date: 12/01/2018
Location: Upper Redwood Rd. to 13/580 :(
Item: Contour Roam2 action cam w 32gb microsd and partial thread piece thingy.

I mounted my Roam2 Cam to my top case for a different POV today while on a romp/ride through RWR via Castro Valley Blvd towards Skyline.

Somewhere between upper RWR and 13/580 westbound, I lost her :rip

I had been checking my 6 frequently to see if it was still there and until I was on 13 back towards 580 did I notice it was gone...my dumbass failed to secure the safety lanyard to the base :mad I'm guessing some of the the one-wheeled shenanigans may have shook it loose :thumbdown or :thumbup

I turned back around and started from Skyline down toward hwy 13 entrance scanning and stopping to check possible matches (found lots of lost junk).

I just picked up a new-to-me Hero4 silver and mounted it up front and I bumped the Roam2 to have a rear POV. Literally bought the hero4 yesterday and saw an opportunity to sneak in a nice and wet one on RWR.

The kicker; the footage from the hero4 isn't nearly as stable as the Roam2's.

That's what I get for going out to hoon vs. taking care of the honey do's.

If any of y'all regulars or visitors to RWR find it, I'll pay handsomely with hobo dollars and a back rub :twofinger

Mahalo for keepin' an eye out.

Needle in a hay stack.
I hope you get it back.
Fwiw, regardless of the mount you'll never see my camera without some kind of leash/lanyard.
That practice has paid off countless times.

Do you ever use a helmet mount, if so do you have a leash for that?
I've only ever mount my camera to my helmet and never an problem but I really don't have the camera with me very often.

I do.
It was easy too make something up. Just about a 9 inch section that's secured by a small clip at the back of my collar. I just make sure it's pulled taught so it doesn't flap and distract.
Overkill? ... Perhaps.
But I know me too well, I don't trust myself with a $400 device without keeping some kind of eye on it.
peace of mind=priceless
I've also never had to start a thread like this. :laughing

I fabricated one for the roam2 and I know it’s value all too well as I’ve had the lanyard serve it’s purpose on more than one occasion. In fact, I was toying with a different design and connection before heading out :mad

This was supposed to be the maiden voyage with two POVs and to compare footage between the hero and the roam. Initially I was just gonna fart around the area and I kept getting closer and closer to rwr. Then, as I continue to putt around on the hooli machine, the wider and wider the grin gets. I tell myself to just turn around a go home.

Next thing I know, I’m approaching the pinehurst hairpin/intersection and say to mahself, “Self, just go left to skyline and get yer tookus back home to pick up so and so from work!”

I make the rest of the way fine but can’t remember checking for the roam until I’m already on 13 which is when I see that it’s gone, pull off and turn around.

Anyhoo, somewhat of an update, I took the scenic way home after picking up my son from work and I head from skyline backwards on rwr towards Castro valley.

There were still plenty of spandex brigade out so figured someone must’ve snagged if it were visible.

I’ll chalk it up to a loss at this point; just feel like a total heel as I hemmed and hawed about the lanyard and about even going out on redwood today :(

I dropped a yellow Sony Walkman sport on skyline just north of page mill. Please keep an eye out.

Speaking of dropping stuff off of the bike...

A few years back I was riding up Foresthill road to the end and stopping to take photos. I got tired of always having to open the side case, pull the camera out, take the photo, then put it back in again, so I just put the camera strap across my chest, rode slow, and took the photos that way. When I got to the end of the paved road I went to put the camera away and the lid to my side case was gone. :cry

Rode slowly back to where I knew I still had it, looking along the road all the way and didn't see it. Turned around and headed back up, still looking and finally spotted it. There were only three cars on that road during the entire time I was riding in the area and one of them ran over it and flattened it. :mad

I finally learned to hook a small leash to both lids so that if they ever came off again they couldn't make it to the ground. It's a good idea to do that with anything at all that could possibly come loose and fall off.

A few years back we were returning from cutting down a Christmas tree, throw it in the back of the pick up, yup no tree when we got home.

Too much lean angle...
I woke up in San Diego, rode desert twisties, had a burrito and decided I had to make it up to SF by night. GoPro Hero 3 Black on suction cup had enough of the cold and gave it to the 5N, Coalinga, 11/15/2014.

So it was a wheelie action that made it come loose?
What can we call that action ?
Anyone ? Chime in The Barfs

What color is your roam? May help someone spot it if it is one of the bright colors like red, blue or green. If it is the black one, may be more difficult to spot

It would take a shitload of force to remove the adhesive mounts glued to my helmet. I wouldn't doubt it could withstand 50-70 pounds of force or more. As long as the surface was properly cleaned before applying and the proper amount of time given for the glue to setup I wouldn't have any concern about a mount failing under just the weight of the camera.
Maybe a bird strike at speed could knock the camera from the mount but likely you would notice any such impact.

Agreed.
There are 2 things I also consider.
Age of my mount adhesive and crashing.
Those remind me to spend the extra minute and throw a rope on it.
(My camera does a lot of dirtbike duty as well as being placed in a variety of locations and helmets)

It was black in color; nothing special in the way of markings etc.

When I went back the day of, I was hoping I’d be able to see the red recording light on but it’s such a small camera and even smaller light, the odds were stacked.

I posted hoping if I put it out in the ether, the universe would speak. It did. It said, “Next time don’t be so lazy”.:rolleyes
