Awesome people still exist, guy helped me get my bicycle with a flat home

I couldn't help but share that good people still exist out there. I was out riding my bicycle for my weekly ride up into the hills. On my way home, I got a flat. I figured I was only about 1.5 - 2 miles from my house and rather than spending the next 30 mins trying to fix my bicycle, I'd just walk home and fix it later. After walking about 3 blocks, a guy I've seen along my route in the past on an electric cart passed by and offered to give me a ride about 6 - 8 blocks. I thought well, he's in an open cart that can only go so fast, so chances of him screwing me over aren't as high as someone in a truck.

Rather than just taking me up over a small hill near by, he took me to the major intersection near my house. After which, I only had to walk about 4 - 5 blocks.

To the guy name Seth, you rock. Good, helpful people like you exist when we're all in need. :thumbup

That has made my day :), I just had to share.

Changing a tube in your bicycle can't take more than 5 min.
Carry an extra tube, patch or throw out the old one at home.

nice of the guy to give you a lift.:thumbup

I keep saying there are more good people then bad in this world.
My friend got his Iphone returned by a very nice couple. I got helped twice when I broke down.

There are more good then bad, the bad just get more press.

BTW, here is a real flat fix-desperation story.

When I was 15 and I couldn't afford to buy the box of tubes I have now, I went for an evening winter ride, and pop, got a flat.

The glue from my patch kit was was near frozen, and I was about 10 miles from my house in the Bronx. It was very dark, about 32 degrees, and the closest phone was about 3 miles away.

A stranger stopped and offered to give me a ride home. Amazingly, he did exactly that, nothing creepy.

Front tire, yes, quick fix, but it was my rear tire. Granted, none of you own this bike nor know its quirks, last time I went to fix it, it took a good 30 mins because of the nature of the rim of the rear tire and the first fix failed. I'd rather just do it at home if I'm not far, which was the case. You all have your own opinions, so I'm not going to bother arguing over something that isn't what this thread is about.

This thread is about people doing good things, regardless of how hot or whatever I am. I guess I can firmly believe that bicyclist, even though they can be douchbags with traffic laws, still do have an inkling to help other bicyclist when in need. Last time my bicycle broke down wasn't a tire related issue, but my brakes. A few cyclist stopped by to check if I needed help, but I knew I didn't have the parts to fix the issue nor would anyone else. Anyways, I'm not going to thread jack my own thread.

I'm just giving credit to the guy who helped me make my life a little easier today. If you want to go and say how my bicycling fixing skills are poor, start another thread please, as this isn't about bashing, its about good people.

Yes, there are still awesome people in this world. My wife and I met 3 of them about 3 years ago.

We were driving home from a trip to Oregon on the 2nd of January. We were south on 505 when the lights started to dim. My wife took the first exit we came to (didn't even know exactly where were were) and just as we got off the highway the car died. Called Triple-A for assistance, assuming we needed at least a jump and probably a tow.

While we were waiting, a car comes off the highway and pulls in behind us. This couple offers to help us, though not sure how much help they could be. They gave us a jump, but the engine died shortly after. I'm already starting to think it's the alternator, but the guy tries a couple things, including going a few miles away to his home to get a few tools, but nothing works.

A few minutes later the tow truck shows up. This is when we learn that the basic AAA only gets you 7 miles of towing, and the nearest town is 15 miles away (Vacaville). While we're trying to figure out what to do, this guy just *appears* with us. Turns out we had come to a stop right in front of his place and we hadn't even noticed (house was a few hundred feet off the road). He comes up with a suggestion: there's a bed-and-breakfast in town (Winters) and he'll take us over there to see if there's a room available. So we go there, but no luck. So I ask what Plan B is. He says "Plan B is that you borrow my pickup truck, drive into Vacaville, stay the night in a hotel, pick up a new alternator in the morning, come back and we put it in".

We were floored. He didn't know us from Adam, yet he was willing to lend us his truck?! That's almost unheard of these days.

So that's what we did. Stayed the night in Vacaville, got a new alternator, and came back. On top of that, the guy that had stopped at first to help also came over to help with the install. And after it was over, they wouldn't take anything for it. We even offered to take them out for breakfast, but they didn't want that. They just said "pay it forward".

Very very cool.

more to the point, if some "creepy looking" dude had pulled over, would you have rejected the help? Then when no appropriate white knight shows, thus proving people are jerks? :p

the real amazing part of this Cool Story Bra is that someone driving a NEV would actually stop and risk their battery reserve to help someone. Probably the bicycle helped LOL
