At work just thinking...

Thinking about all the dumb things I've done on a motorcycle in the past makes me want to pass out. Thankfully I am here today without any crazy motorcycle accidents.

Do any of you guys/gals ever think and reflect of your first days of being on a motorcycle?

I remember practicing wheelies in my neighborhood, without a helmet, and in flip flops.:squid

I'm that guy who once rode a motorcycle (with a punctured rear tire) up the bed of a truck on a wooden plank that was only wide enough for the rear tire. Once.

This was waaay back in the early days of my riding, when I had neither a truck of my own, a proper ramp, or the network of riding friends I have now to bail me out. Never doing that again. It worked at the time, but never again! :laughing

I won't say anything about the grudge races on Grizzly/Skyline in the late 60s, early 70s. After all, I wasn't even there. That's my story and I'll stick to it.

Long ago I helped a buddy load/unload his Sportster with his pick-up truck. When we got the shop we were running late and since we had to load the bike backwards (due to the utility rack) we just propped up a ramp, then I fired up the bike and rode it on down like there was nothing to it. Parked and noticed all the shop staff were watching - just sure I'd dump the whole thing on my head, no doubt.

Ah, the grace and stupidity of youth.

At least they made me wear a helmet when flat tracking.:afm199:twofinger

Today, I did a wheelie. In my defense though, my bike was DESIGNED to wheelie. It's almost hard NOT to wheelie every time I get a nice stretch of road with no one in front of me or any cross traffic :ride

I mean, I still do occasional wheelies and high speed runs. I just feel like I was a much more reckless back then.

And while you're at work thinking, there's a fresh new crop of riders :party doing all of the things they haven't done on a motorcycle in hopes that they'll live to create threads like this.

I started street riding at age 17 (1972) and was having a grand time just bombing around happy happy happy. What comes to mind for me is one day when I was 25 I was riding and had the strangest moment when all of a sudden I seemed to realize what a total lack of attention to so many hazards of riding I had been oblivious to. The mind does not fully develop until the mid-twenties so that's my excuse. But I really felt very lucky in that moment that I had made it to that point. Changed my attention to riding completely. Still did/do plenty of stupid.

You think too much man. Put the really scary stuff in the back of your mind (unless you learned a value-able lesson you frequently need!) Don't worry about the rest of it...

I almost died many times I like to forget about....:afm199
