Architectual Drawings

I'd like an architectural drawing of my house to display. I don't know if drawings are already somewhere from when it was built (1984) that I may be able to obtain, or if I would need to have it done from scratch.

Anyone have any insight to where I might look for existing drawings; or where to go for new ones?

Thanks!

The City should have copies on file, but you will need to go there and look at their records. Then most likely contact the Architect to obtain permission to have them printed since they are copyrighted.

If he does not appear to be around. Then send a registered letter to him and if it comes back you can share that with the City assuming you own the house and obtain a copy.

Sort of PIA, but the way it works.

DucatiHoney does residential architecture.

You could probably sneak a pic at the City and go to any drafting service as an alternative. You are not supposed to take photo's though. We won't do that, but your Mean Dad and the ramifications are minimal.

If you want to discuss feel free to call me.

Good luck!

Perfect! I was really hoping you or DH would chime in! :port

I think what you want is called an Architectural Rendering. If it was me I'd do it myself but I did make drawings for a living. It's not really that hard.

Got the city of P-burg to send me some info on the house, and it was built by Seeno Homes. So now I start the process of seeing if they have (and will provide to me) any drawings.

Bud, are those kinds of things kept for this long?

Bahahahah, Seeno Homes. Which development? I used t do a lot of work for the Seeno's back at an old consulting firm. Totally mob owned. Fucking Al Seeno. They offered me a job one time. I told them "You'd have to pay me an exhorbitant amount of money to come work for you." "Name a number" they said.

I'd probably be in jail now if I took it.

On a similar note, I wrote the mitigation monitoring plan for James Hetfield's place in Marin. I've been all over his property (he sold it and moved to Colorado). Somewhere I still have a copy of the plans to his house.

Not sure what the development is called. I'll look for signage on the way home this afternoon.

I don't know when your house was done, but I just typed in Seeno Homes Pittsburg CA plans and a ton of plans and elevation drawings showed up. You might do that and see if one of them matches yours. If your house was drawn up recently (ca. mid-90's they probably still have it on computer.) We're required to keep things for 10 years, but now that an entire drawing set for a little house might take up 875 kb, I keep stuff a lot longer than that. If it was hard-copy they might have tossed it, but a developer I would think would keep it around because they make money by not re-inventing the wheel. If you need new drawings done, hire an as-built co. They do it cheap/fast/accurate. I gotta group who are great, PPM (precision property measurements). I can explain to you what to ask for or you can just go for it. You don't need an arch to draw up existing conditions...too much $$. Srsly. Unless you want it all "artistic". Then you might want someone with some hand-drafting experience, and that's getting harder to come by these days. I usually take my computer drawings and run it through a "sketch" filter on Photoshop to make them seem more artsy-fartsy if I need.

I have a stupid story about working with those guys. I was in the field looking at mitigation in Fairfield. I was young and cocky. We were walking by this old barn and one of the guys says "That's where Al Jr. keeps his cars". Not at all knowing the history of the Seeno's and seeing how sketchy the barn was I say "I wonder if that's where Jimmy Hoffa is buried." I'm not even sure why i said it, other than it was kind of a really stupid running joke I had at the time.

Well, it went over like a lead balloon and nobody said a word. Which I assumed was because they must not have heard me. So I cleared my throat, and stated in a loud clear voice "I WONDER IF THAT'S WHERE JIMMY HOFFA IS BURIED". I then noticed the dirty looks from the guys I was with and shut my mouth.

I got back to the office and asked my boss who then told me about Al Seeno and the mob, etc. I laughed.

Just got off the phone with someone at Seeno and was told that they would not have anything from 1984 as they only keep stuff for the required ten years.

I would absolutely love for you to walk me through what I need to ask PPM (or similar).

This is approximately what I'm looking for:

Sure-zies... go here. You click some boxes (plans, elevations) saying what you want. In the comments/notes sections tell them that Shelterwerk sent you. A Colin M. will probably reach out to you to finalize the details and will likely cc me. I'm happy to help out. It should only take a few minutes of my time. Let me know if you have other questions. You can PM me or click on the link in my signature to get me at my work email.

They're based out of SoCal, but Colin is their local guy here in the Bay. I shot him an email saying that you might be reaching out via their website and to feel free to loop me in as needed.
