Anyone test ride / own the new Hypermotard?

It's on my short-list of next motorcycle to buy and I've been waiting for some real-world reviews. It was supposed to have been delivered to dealers this past Friday.

Good question. I've heard good things about the Hypermotard, so it would be interesting to know how it's different from, for example, the Monster. Other than styling. The thing that turns me off about the Hypermotard is the tiny amount of suspension travel it has (a bit more than the Monster in the front, and actually LESS in the back), which is really very un-motard-like.

No, but I really want to test ride one and the Multistrada before I buy a new bike this year.. Granted I'm currently trying to decide if I should buy a base model Multistrada or S- Touring since all I really want are side cases and a centerstand.

the new Hyper is watercooled, so it's an entirely different bike than the Monster.

IIRC the old Hyper was based on the old Multi, and the new Hyper is based on the new Multi. I wasn't aware that the old Hyper had less travel than the Monster, that doesn't sound right to me. When I test rode some a few years ago I preferred the Monster 1100S to the Hyper 1100S.

I gave the training on the new Hyper this year. It is completely different. The ergonomics are substantially changed. The 821 is a whole new motor - the Crank isn't even shimmed the way the other Ducati motors are. The SP has the trick suspension, but folks like me have to tippy toe to ride it. It has 185mm of Front wheel travel, compared to the base model with 170mm. The horsepower went up to 110, but the torque is lower than on the old 1100 so if it was the wheelie-monster you were after... this is a lot more tame -- which in most cases is a good thing.

The Multistrada is also revamped from the Main Bearings out. It has Secondary Air which has tremendously increased its low end driveability. The "S" models have the Skyhook suspension which takes time to get used to. Once you understand it and use it for a while... its awesome. The drawback is the getting used to it.

The Hyper is water-cooled, uses the 11 degree Testastretta design and blew the service intervals out to 9 & 18,000 miles!!! It's worth a look.

they have one at the motor cafe

They aren't offering any demo rides this year, either that or Danny was blowing me off as a not serious customer. Which is a shame because now I don't want to buy from them and it will make my life difficult since I work nightshift and the next nearest dealership is an hour away.

From what I've seen, the Hypermotard has 6.5" travel in the front and 5.6" in the rear. The monster has 4.7" in the front and 5.8" in the rear. And a GSX-R 600 has 5.1" front and 5.4" rear. I don't know if I'd call anything with barely more suspension than a GSX-R a motard anything...

I'm not calling it a motard. When I did the test rides I had a 625SMC, so a real motard - albeit street oriented. The hyper ain't no tard.

I missed the Hyperstrada unveiling event on Friday :( That bike has piqued my interest since first reading about it.

Munroe has a red Hyperstrada demo bike. I was there Saturday, I would have ridden it had I not been in a rush.
