Final hammer blow of the day during a barn building resulted in the tip of my left thumb "exploding" off about 5 feet.
Most brutal pain without having passed out ever.:(

For all the chainsaws, screwguns, sawzalls I use on a daily basis for past 32 years, I'm surprised I still have all ma digits. :laughing

I cut a small (3/8") bit off the tip of one of my fingers.

I was 10.

Let's just say that I'm a grown ass man and I still can't feel anything but pressure on that fingertip. You'll heal up, you may not regain feeling.

Family members have cut off about as much as you have...some gnarly fingernails have resulted, and recovery seems to take a few months. I suspect strength is going to be a matter of how lucky you are, and how much time you spend working on it.

Maybe one of these?

Taze away, Yana...
I had my left index removed at the middle knuckle wen I was 12. Don't clean a motorcycle chain with a wire wheel bench grinder... Ever.

The surgery placed it back on my hand, but it hurt all the time for about a year. I still feel pain from the tip in the palm of my hand. Nerves are crossed up. It took about two years to be able to catch a baseball.

After about three years it becomes normal, and you stop thinking about it. I do have a few friends that have messed up hands too. They have lost fingers completely, and to this day they curse them when they do fine work.

Hope you heal up soon brother.

Thanks all for the information. I got the 2" long pin pulled out this morning, feels so much better. Dr said to start using it and to see him in a month. I have 3 different hardness of balls to squeeze. And the clutch lever on the K1600 to squeeze when I get some more movement. If stiff in a month then PT.

Honda DCT in your future?

Have ridden with you (Tioga Pass a while ago) and you can haul the mail, so doubt you want to settle for a Honda auto tranny.

Sliced my left index multiple times, luckily remains whole. Know a few folks that have done major revisions as have you. My experience follows:

The tip of your fingers is a unique set of nerve endings. If you clip them off, the "nub" won't replicate their fine sensitivity. Hopefully, as has already been mentioned, you will feel pressure sensation and that'll leave ya wanting, but better than nothing.

Keep it clean! Infections will cause swelling, leaving unfeeling scar tissue and retard the process of healing in general. Nerves will recover last. Be patient.

Finger cots. You know, condoms for your digits. If the wound is not fully sealed and callused, put on protection.

Strengthen the non-injured hand. We are bi-lateral animals. The body will send out the stuff to bolster muscles to BOTH sides. Read studies about less atrophy in patients that exercised a limb in a cast and the lessened state of atrophy in the damaged limb.

Eventually, push the limits. Though more a wrist and general hand exercise, digging through a canister of beans or rice is a good method of strengthening the fingers. Put a small object in your hand. Bury it by digging through the dry beans/rice. Extract hand, then do it all over again. Repeatedly. Will dry your paws, so oil up after. And no party bean dip served at your house during this time.

Nerves are tricky, but with tip gone, best you can hope to achieve is control and some pressure sensitivity. At least that's my experience.

And, on the bright side, you'll have one more part of your body that will warn you of impending weather change. Lemonade!

Good luck!
