Any recommendations on welding shop?

I did a BARF search but no useful results. And google returned some names but I would really like recommendations based on personal experience.

I'm looking to reinforce an aluminum subframe on a dual-sport bike. Very simple really, weld two aluminum plates to the subframe. But I understand that aluminum can be tricky, therefore the request for recommendations.

Thanks in advance.

Weiss Welding on 1237 Folsom St, San Francisco use to be the std. go to guys (415) 861-8410

Then there was Tanner Welding around the same area... maybe like 4th and Bryant or Brannon???

I don't remember cause I keep my own TIG unit these days. Anyway both those shops had certified welders.

Good Luck

im also needing an alum welder or somebody that can weld a cast oem fairing stay tab. Anything closer than SF? I know the OP is in SF, but figured Id ask instead of starting another welding wanted thread. :)

I feel like I pimp them regularly, but I had some custom work done for a cage project at Performance Fabrication, and it's art. Highly recommended, and they're in San Carlos.

Wicked,

Not sure which bike's stays you intend to weld but if a GSXR, here was my experience... I took two '06 GSXR front fairing Stays (the stock cast ones) and three rear subframes (not the rails, but the aft cast part that always breaks in a crash) to Advanced Welding. Mtn View. They said it is "pot aluminum" and they would not try to weld it/is not weldable.

I kind of felt the same way since its such a crappy cast but i need a washer welded onto where the fairing stay bolts go through to hold it on. There are 2 bolt holes that hold it to the frame and one of them has a 1/2 round piece broken off it so it doesn't stay tight and drops forward (its the top mount thats broken). I figured id try and get it welded before telling the customer he needs a race stay. Maybe jb weld but that stuff doesn't offer a lot of vibration strength.
