Is that guy an Electrician? Does he own a bunch of Indians? Like 40 or 50?

My father in law offered to give me his '73 Triumph Bonneville. It's a beauty.

Hi Deftone,

Sorry, just saw this ... Red Fred Johansen is the SFMC member that is the union electrician who owns all the Indians ...

Red Fred is Kalle's and the club's Indian guru ... Kalle (the guy on the Chief on the dirt road) "only" owns '48 and '37 Chiefs, both of which he built up from baskets over the past five years, with help from Red Fred and lots of other people ...

Hope you take your father-in-law up on his Bonneville offer ... great bikes! :ride

Since I started the thread I'll say vintage is whatever you want it to be. For me it's 1980 or before.
Dang, every motorcycle I've ever owned is vintage then. Right now I ride a 1980 Guzzi and a 1974 Ducati. I have much desire and lust for a 1974 Moto Guzzi Eldorado (with bags, windshield and front disk) and they have been steadily rising in value while I make garage space.

I have had a couple of early '70s Hondas and a '74 Vespa. They are gone and not missed.

Good call John.

Islemann took those pictures at the Oregon Vintage Motorcyclists annual show in 2009. (The Yale and the early Honda Benly)
The owner of that Yale was able to demonstrate that it's more than a museum peice by starting it up.

The latest 'old bike' in the stable is this sweet '84 Honda VF1100S Sabre. Gifted to me by a good friend as a 'semi-runner'. I've been working on it since March but haven't been able to ride it until late August as I had my knee replaced in April and couldn't bend my leg enough to get my foot on the peg until the 14th (coincidentally my daughters b'day).
IMG_1527.JPG

Michael, is that JR Dallas's old Honda?

Sorry to hear about your knee.

Hi Carlo,

Wow, I'd have loved to see a Yale Twin running ... :ride
Truly a beautiful engine ...

Thanks for posting that it's a Yale!

The 49 Mile Ride, 10/27, 9am ...

Hi BARF Old Bike Riders,

Ready To Ride started this thread asking about BARFers into vintage or classic bikes meeting up to kick tires and go for a ride ...

20111031-085910.jpg

20111031-085401.jpg

The annual 49 Mile Ride is this Sunday, with well over
200 pre-1976 bikes showing up at 9am in the parking lot of the
Bay View Boat Club, just south of PAC Bell Park ...
(I don't have anything to do with organizing this ride, just enjoy it ...)

Most BARFers who are into old bikes never miss the
49 Mile Ride.
Get there early and buy a cool t-shirt (they sell out), or sleep
late and show up for tire kicking and buy the BBQ lunch ...

The ride itself is for old bikes, but when my old bike isn't running
I head down for lunch, park my new bike on the street,
and check out the beautiful vintage bikes in the parking lot, and chat with
my BARF buddies ...

It is an epic gathering of the vintage bike clans ... :ride

It is also a MotoGP Sunday, so I'll be riding over to the
San Francisco Motorcycle Club
after the 49 Mile Ride BBQ to open the
clubhouse up (18th Street at Folsom) ...

We have a fountain that serves anything a
motorcyclist may wish to quaff ... we have
a 1907 Curtiss Twin on display in the clubhouse
we purchased in 1947 ...

It is the Japanese GP at Motegi ... Moto3 at 4pm, Moto2 at 5pm
and MotoGP at 6 pm ... With Ace Cafe Rob and the old
Ace Cafe crowd ...

So, there you go ... Never gets easier to kick vintage
tires with like-minded BARFers in San Francisco than it
will be this Sunday ... :party

see you in the parking lot,

Re Tired Not Dead
Carlo - that was indeed the Yale at OVM in '09.

DSCF7705.JPG

Thanks for updating the thread.

I was head down in diagnosing the ol' VF for a bog in the midrange. I'm afraid I have to pull the carbietooters and double check the work of the gentleman who last 'rebuilt' them. My suspicion is that he mixed the jets from front to rear or side to side or both. Not a lot of people know that the VF1100 uses different jet sizes on the front and rear carbs AND different needles and emulsion tubes too. Sigh. It sure pulls like a freaking freight train at WOT though. A buck fifty five on the GPS comes up right quick. Almost as quick as on my ZX11d. I'm glad I went through the suspension already. :)

Hey islemann,

What fun to see that Yale running ... one of the most
beautiful motorcycle engines ... exquisite ... :ride

155 on GPS is fast! Love the fairing on the '84 Sabre ...
Always hated pulling the carbs on my "V" engine Hondas ...
so hard to get them back into place ...

Hope the knee rehab is going well ... :thumbup

As always, we had a great time at the AMCA's 13th annual 49 Mile Ride ...
thanks to Pete Young and his family, the AMCA, the Bay View Boat Club and

I was able to ride with a couple of great old marques along the route. Couple of Nimbus and a Zundapp opposed model that had the nicest exhaust note I have heard in ten years. The Nimbus sound reminded me of Ford Model A`s.

Between the 60 weight and bean oil haze it was going back in time. Really appreciate these guys for bringing out and riding 60/70/80 year old machines so we get to share the experience.

As a plus, I saw my first ever running Panther motorcycle!

Hi Cereal KLR,

Got a pic of the Panther:

I think it belongs to Craig Howell ...?
I suspect Craig is El-Caganer!
Here's a link to his Panther photo blog ...

Pretty fun that you got to throw a leg over a Nimbus and a Zundapp ...
Sounds like you got to ride the side-hack Nimbus, too?

Love this event, sooo many wonderful bikes ...

see you in the parking lot,

John, I can see why you wanted this thread moved. I hadn't seen that latest batch of pictures!
It's nice that we can now enjoy our old bike pictures without having to search through pages of other stuff to find them!

Thanks again to Budman, Enchanter, and the rest of the BARF Admin/Moderation team for making this happen!

Hey Carlo,

Thanks for having the power move this thread ... it was my vintage oasis on the "General" forum for a few months ... :thumbup

Join you in thanking Budman, Enchanter, and the rest of the BARF Admin/Moderation team! :party

Here's a couple pics of a nice shovel-head at the San Jose Motorcycle Club's Spring Run this weekend:

Lost the thread for a while......

It's embarrassing as the OP but I lost track of this thread. :blush
Glad to have found it again. I also thank the Budman and the BARF moderating crew for creating this sub-forums.

Just a reminder that this coming Saturday (5/29 ) is the Clubman's Show and swap meet at the San Jose Fairgrounds to be followed by The Morning After ride on Sunday. All old British iron but I believe there will be vintage European and vintage Japanese shows in separate buildings at the same time.

Hoping for dry weather and to meet some of you there.

Hi RtR,

Haha, I lost track of this cool thread, too ... :laughing

I read somewhere that this thread helped convince folks that a vintage
forum here on BARF would be popular, so as the OP you
get a "thank you!" also! :ride

Hope to see you at the Clubman's Show this weekend ...
Think we're going to try to hit the indoor flat-track
racing on Saturday night ...

Hey Papi,

Cool threads for the '79 Daytona and '69-'71 H1 ...
I snapped this pic of an H1 up at Alice's recently ...
I'd have posted it in your H1 thread, but because it has
front disk brakes, I don't think it's a '69-'71 ...?
Plus, it isn't my bike, so here it is in this thread:
