I'm going to be passing by on I80 and thought it would be cool to stop there and watch the activities. Is there more to just showing up and buying a ticket to watch?

The pits are fantastic. Starting line is another great place to check out equipment. Actual runs at speed are a long way away.

Note the salt eats everything. Take an old pair of tennis shoes and then throw them away. Put sun screen under your nose and ears. Your sun glasses are not dark enough. Wash what ever you drive out there when you get into town, you will still get rust. I always rented a car here and drove it back. If you fly into SLC the rental counter will have a sign saying saying you will pay extra if they find salt on your rental.

after 1 Bonneville trip, the bottom of my hauler is the same shade of crusty/blistered orange as "The Titanic", rusting at the bottom of the Atlantic

the next brake job required new EVERYTHING below the M/C from corrosion

If you can get a ride from someone and park on the road before the salt starts, that works best. There is a rush in the morning to get in and finding a lift from the entrance was never difficult. My wife and I hitched a ride from a nice couple that had driven up from Texas and we got a ride from two long haired freaky people another time. Nice folks and everyone is giddy so it's nice and friendly. Second, the sun's rays are reflected by the salt and you get sunburn in unexpected places. Just slather the sunblock on everywhere you don't want sunburn. Bring way more water than you can imagine drinking by yourself. The heat can be intense. Ice is even better. Bring a hat. Do not go to the Bonneville Salt Flat WITHOUT A HAT! Finally I think it is important to remember that these fine people have waited a long time to be on the salt and many have traveled across the globe. This may be there only shot they'll get this year to make something happen. It may be the only shot they'll ever get... All the work, all the planning, all the money? It comes down to one week. It is an amazing, beautiful expression of humanity. Have fun!

Thanks, everyone. I had a nice 3 hours visit on Monday. Was making tracks to SF, so couldn't stay too long. It was extremely interesting!
