Any BARF Audiophiles?

I have full blown ADHD. I can’t concentrate at my highest level without background music.

But the tempo, cadence, etc needs to be redundant

What the shit is this...
It's almost impossible for me to carry a conversation in a room with a television on. Even muted.

You’re nuts :x

She just asked how much $ and I said $800 (each)

She said that wasn’t bad...

I reinforced the (each) part :laughing

:wow but she’s not upset so there’s that...

Whatever you do don't get a Prima Luna integraded, your life will be ruined, it's like taking the red pill.

"You take the blue pill—the story ends, you wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill—you stay in Wonderland, and I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes. Remember: all I'm offering is the truth. ... Once one chooses the red or blue pill, the choice is irrevocable."

$2300 to $5000?

I think I'll stick with my 30+ year old NAD7250PE in my 2.2 secondary setup for music.

I did just repair my 2005 DVD/CD/SACD Denon 2910 for use as my CD player in that room.

Glad I did; no contest in terms of fidelity compared to streaming...obviously!

Congratulations.

What did you have before the Ascends?

Thankfully my wife has never batted an eye when I bought Hi Fi gear, A/V gear or motorcycles.

I didn’t give that much for my Primaluna Integrated; although, mine’s the entry level Classic and I bought it used. I paid $1,300. Over time the cost went up because I rolled all the tubes. Great amp. I love it. :thumbup

Is that too much? I never let money get in the way of having a good time (Well a reasonable amount anyway). I worked hard for it and it needs to be spent. :teeth

For me yes but if it brings you joy then it's well worth the price.

I'm quite happy with my 30 year old NAD 7250PE and am using the pre outs/main ins with a minidsp which I use as an outboard crossover to my two little subs. Used REW and Umik to EQ the subs with the minidsp.

Sadly modern stereo receivers/integrated amps often omit pre outs and main ins.

I use my Primaluna strictly as a 2 channel system. No sub. And you’re correct. No outputs for a sub. Years ago I had a powered Velodyne. It had BIG sound, but I’d have to output the left and right through the Velodyne. Kind of defeats the tube amp, having to introduce more SS circuitry between the amp and the speakers. I have no idea how to get around that.

It seem that if you really want to most efficient use of power amps, you still need a line level output from the preamp, run the signal through a crossover, then to separate power amps for mid/highs and sub.

Subwoofer with speaker level inputs, albeit it without bass management (which removes anything below the crossover frequency selected from your main speakers) but it cans still work well.

You send a second speaker wire from your stereo tub amp to the speaker level inputs on the powered sub and it puts no more strain on your tube amp as you are simply sending a high level signal to the the subwoofer which has its own solid state plate amp.

This is the cheapest decent one I could find.

You don't have to hook up the "speaker out" if you don't want to.

Eli5?

I can see less colors than I can hear sounds

By a massive margin?

Yes, you can hear more sounds than you can see colours by a factor of about 1000. Or if you want to think in opposite terms, if your hearing range was the same as your visual range, you would be legally deaf.

The reason for this discrepancy is not a mystery: our visual range is so limited because the Solar radiation peaks strongly right in the middle of the range we can see (around 550nm); outside this range radiation is low enough that it does not produce significant evolutionary advantages to humans.

Our hearing range though is determined by physical processes on Earth (relative size of objects, animals, wind wavelengths, etc), and having this very wide range was essential for the survival of our species.

Congratulations.

Just some older Definitive Technology 5.1 system. Their "pro monitor" at the time.

Probably 10-15 years old.

That is a huge jump!

Congratulations.

What subwoofer are you using?

I yanked my old sub last year because I was getting to much offline hum and it just wasn’t performing (wasn’t a ground loop).

That’s next on my list.

Any recommends for something with a smaller footprint?

I agree with Rhythmik which Ascend carries, (they may even give you a retroactive 5% "system" discount).

I've owned sealed servos since 1986 and they are outstanding, (albeit different brand). My next sub will be a Rhythmik assuming my current one dies.

Here is the smallest one:

300watts =14w14h16d= 58 lbs* 12" [18hz] $539 RHYTHMIK L12
