it's been a long while since i saw a phone that had interesting technology.

Features
  • Dynamic Perspective
  • Firefly technology
  • Mayday
  • One-handed short cuts
  • One-handed short reading

dynamic perspective isn't that interesting but firefly is really neat if it works as advertised. the one handed operation seems like a good idea. mayday is awful i don't want customer service accessing my phone.

Firefly looks interesting, but after trying to deal with my SO's restrictive, annoying Kindle Fire, I would not buy an Amazon phone.

Its mayday feature supposedly will have a service agent respond within 15sec of making a request. If this phone get popular that might require an army of agents

So instead of Siri you'll get Frank from Boston "Nearest sushi place? Whas a madda wichU...Nah nah, you want fresh Italian, cornah of 5th and Lenox. Tell em skinny frank sent you"

Doesn't include Google Play Services because they want you to use Amazon's stuff instead of what comes with Android.

Carrier locked to ATT (lolwat)

No thanks.

.

Read on WSJ that Google refused to let it access Play Store because of how much they hacked up and locked down the Android OS.

Screw that. Closer to vanilla Android, the better.

that's my biggest reason to say no. Pick either Amazon's ecosystem or Google's. Can't have both out of the box. On my Kindle FireHD tablet: no google drive, youtube or gmail app out of the box. I rooted our Kindle tablet to get google play services (partially), which can be a PITA and possibly brick your device if an official update applies incorrectly. Not all apps in google play are in the amazon app store.
the unique features of the Fire phone are nice though. A general rule is to NEVER buy V1.0 of a new device. I'm not willing to pay ~$600 to be a tester for all of that rushed development.

No to amazon restricted OS, no to ATT, no to one handed navigation (I have tried similar, and all it ever results in is undesired inputs.)

"3d" looks cool for games. 3D is and always will be a gimmick though IMHO. I doubt it is actually useful and or a groundbreaking feature.

Either way I'll wait until somebody besides Amazon makes it. They are like the AOL of hardware. Quit buying their crap people. :laughing

You can with regular android. Download Amazons apps and you have all of the same access to their stuff plus with google. Plus you arent locked on their shitty ecosystem.

good point. You can't get Kindle Free Time on an android phone though. Awesome feature, better than any google play app equivalent.
