Am I finally an adult?

Sorry if this is too much stream-of-thought.

So for my birthday 7 years ago I bought the bike I'm currently riding: a 2013 R1200RT.

Since then I've owned around 9 other bikes. They've all come and gone, including a 2016 R1200RT that had some benefits over my current ride, but also some downsides. Long story short, I rented it out for a weekend and it got totaled, so I'm back on my trusty steed.

I still have so much want for other bikes. I want a street triple, a S1000XR, a nice supermoto, a ZX-14, a Versys 650, a new R1200RT (again), an R1200S (again), a nice vintage bike (probably an old BMW too), a KTM 1290 Adventure or 790 Superduke, and probably a bunch of other bikes I've ogled and fell in love with over the years. There are also plenty of bikes I've ridden and hated and I feel I've really narrowed what I like in a bike.

I think it's a sign of adulthood that I have just ended up sticking with my current RT. It just does everything I want and feels like a part of me. Only once in a while I get the inkling to go faster than 130mph and I wish I had a different bike, but once again adult me knows that's a bad want and only leads to bad things.

When I bought my R1200RT I told myself I'd keep it for 10 years and get the 100th anniversary model. That date is only a few years away, but I'm not sure I even want to do that. The only thing that might spur me to buy something else is an electric bike, but only when they can actually get 200+ miles at bay area freeway speeds.

Anyone else painfully content with their bikes and wish that something was better for them? Is this what being an adult is like? I have hair growing out of and on top of my ears now...

I've found the best commuter bike and work horse. The low maintenance and cost of operation for my Energica is really nice. I don't need anything more in that department.

And I'm currently building my long distance/hoonin bike, that hopefully will fill that void.

Still want a supermoto and a dirt bike...

And a Super duke
And a Tuono V4
And a track bike
And so many other tasty bikes.

I love the Energicas and the Eva is on my short list. It would still end up being a secondary bike since the range wouldn't work for me. If I had a shorter commute and the places I ride had fast charging, it'd be a different story.

I'd still have my 1987 K75S if it hadn't been totaled in 2007 by a left turner.

Now that I'm down to one bike and not riding much the F800ST is fine.

As is the 1994 Miata R I bought new off the showroom floor! :laughing

By adulthood do you mean suppressing your desires and living within your means? But, if you have the means as an adult, why wouldn't you fulfill those desires?

I'm very content with my old commuter car because I think changing cars frequently is a financial burden. However, I feel differently about bikes because different bikes give me different types of enjoyment, and a relatively small amount of $ provides a big return in fun.

I have an unhealthy passion for one of these that I choose not to honor solely relying in the adage that wanting is better than having.

But I do like these bikes.

I still like a 150mph rip in the middle of nowhere, but I know that does not mean I am not an adult. Just makes me a kid at heart. Foolish one, but hey that comes with the kid part.

I have it in mind to rekindle some non-opped bikes in 2021.
My super moto, SPAWN - My old TL1000s and unload a couple bikes too.

Almost purchased a Beemer 1000RR early this year thinking about making it more old man comfortable for my kid side to enjoy. The reality of being old bit me and it became clear that a crotch rocket was no longer in my future. Oh well.. the adult in me accepted that. :rant

I'm not that old yet (still in my 30s). Just reshaping my risk tolerance I think. I also love the S1000RR and I think if I buy another gas bike, the S1000XR may be it (has the same scream, but much more comfort). I think motos help keep us young no matter what. Sometimes when I'm riding I get that mental smack in the face realizing that I'm outside, travelling at over 80mph over pavement and I marvel at the entire concept of it.

When I first started, I would change bikes every couple of years. But had my FZ for 6 years now can't really justify anything else (maybe a F850GS?). A little more power would be nice, but then I get reminded that I can't make use of the power I already have and that brings me back to reality.

Mostly wanting something new and selling another to fund/justify it. Most I've had is around 6 at once. I've ridden my R1200RT the most throughout that whole time, usually putting 10-20k miles on the other bikes before selling. My RT on the other hand has close to 110k miles on it and is still going up.

EDIT: toes start rubbing at 41 degrees. Just a nice smooth ride so no DTC or hard breaking.

Beyond jealous...I rode a 2018 and the 5k vibes turned me off. I hear the 2020 model is much better.

In my 40 years of riding I've owned a lot of bikes. I've worked for Yamaha, KTM, Triumph and Ducati. I currently ride a 2006 ZX14. It's simply been the best bike I've ever owned 77k miles. If I ever blow it up or crash it, ill probably replace it with another.

my triumph tiger (and likely the F800GS I also looked at) gave me that feeling of "this does everything I want" and only once when me and an AMG mercedes dropped the hammer on each other on a deserted desert highway for laughs did I crave more. But then I rode the 8 hours back to my house in Oakland in comfort and I had no issues.

It was the best adult decision of my life to get that bike and I still wish I'd taken it with me when I moved. Maybe if I move back I'll snag another. Riding season here is only 6 months before it's all covered in snow. Tough to justify a nice bike.
