AFM Saturday practice and Formula III Race?

I have a couple of questions I am struggling to get an answer on

1. If I sign up for Formula III (race is on Saturday), do I get a practice session and when does it start? Part 2. If I get a practice session with the entry and it is late morning/early afternoon, when do I need to arrive, pick up registration, and tech bike? Basically I am trying to understand if I am able to leave house that morning for the race day instead of the night before.

2. If I enter Saturday half day practice and Formula III race, when does that practice start? Again, trying to understand if I am able to leave my house that morning for the race day instead of the night before.

Thanks

Fitz. You need to buy the Saturday practice. You get NO automatic practice session just by entering F3...Same as any other motocycling event set up and tire warmers ready by 7am Saturday morning ,be at registration at 8am to get your tech inspection slip...

Help me understand why this would be the case? If I enter a race on Sunday I automatically get one morning practice. Why wouldn't this apply on Saturday?

Sunday is set up for racing all day. The morning practice session is typically pretty short. In contrast, Saturday is roughly 2/3rds practice (the entire day used to be practice) with some races added at the end. All you get with a Saturday entry is the race itself.

Fitz. Racing on Saturday is a bonus , a luxury that the AFM has added to their race weekends. Most machines in the paddock can fit within one of the classes offered on Saturday thus giving riders a chance at participating in a speed contest prior to the traditional AFM race day Which is Sunday. I personally would like to see AFM expand ALL of their race weekends to current Sunday schedules on both Saturday And Sunday thus making a 14 round series in just 7 race meets. The Membership in recent history has shouted down this in favor of having Saturday set aside for proctice. To your question on "why" you need to pay in addition to your entry for practice. .It is for very straight forward reasons- revenue..The practice cost shared by the participants keeps the AFM'S doors open so we have a place to come out to and do what we love.

I've heard the last practice of the day on Saturday was a free practice for anyone that will be participating in a Saturday race because it is abbreviated just like the Sunday session. I would email afm@afmracing.org to confirm as I've never tried it myself.

I have done a half day. It starts after the lunchtime break. I believe it was 2 sessions total and I felt it wasn't enough time to even stretch my legs. I'll just buy a full day next time.

I race in f40 light and sometimes I skip Saturday practice. You won't be able to pick up your tech slip until after lunch. You tech while practice session 4 is active and then you can ride in practice session 5 which is often shorter than the others.

IMO, the last practice should be, at least for people in the 'sunday' races (F3, 350Prod) that are on Saturday. It shouldn't necessarily apply to the chapter optional races as it wasn't an option before the 'sunday' races got moved to Saturday.

Thanks for the responses all. I will ask the AFM again and see if I can get an answer. If rules are rules, I get it and follow it. The logic still doesn't make sense to me.

If a single practice session (even a short one) doesn't come with a F3 Race entry on Sat like the races on Sunday, shouldn't that race be moved to Sunday?

Received the official word from the AFM:

"Hi Mark,

Yes, if you signed up for a Saturday race you are allowed to participate in the ONE practice before races start. Just register for your races as normal but do not add "Sat practice". Your tech sheet will be marked with a label that tells the techs you are not allowed to tech till after 12pm. It's as simple as that. :)

If you have any other questions please don't hesitate to ask.

Sincerely,
Kinsy"
