Advice for illegally passing on the shoulder

So lane splitting is only valid with multiple lanes, correct? So legally, you can lane split up to the point where the solid white line starts for an exit lane?

I've wondered this on very wide and long exit/entry lanes ... plenty of room for a motorcycle and even a large truck to share the lane ... but I guess that is illegal because it is only the one lane at that point?

Fuck off
This. Figure the cost of the ticket, divide by the number of times you've taken that shortcut, and that's the daily toll to save that time. Your call if it's worth it to keep doing it. We all pay the go-fast tax sometime...[/]

Fact !

It had been quite some time for me, so I was due. Needed the reminder to chill the fuck out.

I think we have a very similar commute. I gotta ask where this happened.

Not true, it is fine to share the lane even on single lane. OP was cited for riding on the shoulder, which is over the line and illegal.

The lane splitting section added to the vehicle code is a definition only. It is not an enforceable section. So nothing really changed in regards to laws that can be enforced. In other words, you can still share a single lane, though you could face other violations, such as speeding, for example.

For what it's worth, I've passed cops on the right on the carpool lane as you head north from the bay bridge on the 80, and I've not been pulled over for it - I would usually try to stay off the shoulder and wait for cars to move over and as long as I was respectful and careful they didn't seem to mind.

I think a lot of it has to do with how you break the law :p

The best way I've heard it explained to me was, 100 people might of been speeding but you were just the unlucky one to be popped. Consider it the one time you got nailed for the other times in the past you didn't.
